My IONIQ 5 was completely silent inside when driving new. Now it has started making creaking/rattling noises like the trunk lid fittings have become loose. I mentioned this to my dealership when it went in for the 5K tire rotation and they asked if there was anything floating around loose under the trunk mat - there was not. They found nothing related to the trunk lid mechanics/fittings. The lid sits flush and looks normal- in fact well engineered and operates fine (Limited edition auto trunk features). They asked that I bring it back in for a 2-3 hour inspection (for which I would pay) because the mechanic believed there were rocks lodged up in the wheel wells! I told them that if that was the case then the vehicle was delivered that way to me as it has never been off roaded. Is anyone else experiencing this rear end noise?
Hi Its happened this weekend, I made a appointment in the dealer today.

My local Hyundai dealer is now aware of the TSB. I think it actually has come in two steps--the first just added washers behind the hard plastic bumpers on the side of the frame that the hatches closes on. The second adds new bumpers. I'm pretty sure the Ioniq Guy (on Youtube) has a video on this, and it's really recent. In the meantime, I put duct tape on those bumpers, and on the metal hook that the rear door latches onto, and that has actually worked amazingly well.

Yes . I have a 2023 Ionic 5 Namsan. The issue is to do with the tailgate locking mechanism not gripping tightly on the metal U bolt. I put two turns of insulating tape around the U Bolt where the tailgate catches on it and the problem has gone away.

OK- update for all-
Had the "spacer fix" done with little to no result. Also tried the foam insulation trick- no go. Took it back to the dealer who claimed the hydraulic struts were not up to design standard and replaced them... quieter- but not quiet- for a day then the creaking came back worse. It is truly a creaking sound versus a rattle.
For any engineers reading this- it clearly sounds like as the body rolls and torques over bumps and any speed bump-like hump, the rear end creaks with each torque like things are not tight (welded?) in the back- like the hatch is just down tight but moving laterally. The noise has gotten progressively worse AFTER all the dealer "fixes". HELP anyone?

BTW I just got the preconditioning upgrade and the eco mode is basically uselessly slow per other posts here.
This is a known issue. Hyundai issued a technical service bulletin 23-BD-006H. I have the same problem but I am still awaiting for the dealership to receive the parts (waiting over 1 month already). The Hyundai dealership should know about this.

Hi. I just joined this forum partly because I have this same problem - creaking from the rear trunk area. I have a 2023 Ionic 5. No noise at first, now almost continuous. I’ve done everything I could to isolate the noise with no success. Dealer first said that could be something loose in the storage area but nothing there and still the noise. Another dealer said they had heard about this but no recall notice from Hyundai which they seemed to think it would take since they could not find anything. So had anyone sorted out this problem? Thanks.

Thanks for your response. After posting I looked through the forum more thoroughly and found a reference to an updated (in September 2023) TSB, same number but with “-1” at the end. I’ve called a nearby Hyundai dealer and scheduled a service visit - they need to order the parts. This forum is great! I just joined this morning to try to sort out this problem, and already I’ve scheduled a service visit. The noise was driving us crazy. Up to it appearing, we were commenting on how quiet the car is. Thanks again for responding.

Hi Its happened this weekend, I made a appointment in the dealer today.
I have the same issue. It started at about the one year mark. Mine (2022) has had the "recall" done, to little to no avail. It still creaks, and now on top of that, after the "recall" my tailgate now makes a horrendous popping sound when I open it up! That is somehow worse than the creak, except that it only happens when I cycle the tailgate. My dealer showed me some photos of a customers car with the tailgate completely dismantled and he told me "it still creaks"!!! So Hyundai, knows, they just can't seem to be able to fix it! There are channels that can be taken to force action but I really don't know how to go about it....

I too had the 'dreaded' tailgate rattle. After reading through all the suggested 'solutions' I went for what I thought would be the easiest to fix. [I'm lazy like that!]
I felt that the rattle was metallic so I wrapped a couple of turns of insulation tape around the 'staple' of the locking mechanism.
That was a couple of months ago and I haven't heard a peep since! Hope this works for you, if you haven't tried it yet.
