My IONIQ 5 was completely silent inside when driving new. Now it has started making creaking/rattling noises like the trunk lid fittings have become loose. I mentioned this to my dealership when it went in for the 5K tire rotation and they asked if there was anything floating around loose under the trunk mat - there was not. They found nothing related to the trunk lid mechanics/fittings. The lid sits flush and looks normal- in fact well engineered and operates fine (Limited edition auto trunk features).
They asked that I bring it back in for a 2-3 hour inspection (for which I would pay) because the mechanic believed there were rocks lodged up in the wheel wells! I told them that if that was the case then the vehicle was delivered that way to me as it has never been off roaded.
Is anyone else experiencing this rear end noise?

OK- update for all-
Had the "spacer fix" done with little to no result. Also tried the foam insulation trick- no go. Took it back to the dealer who claimed the hydraulic struts were not up to design standard and replaced them... quieter- but not quiet- for a day then the creaking came back worse. It is truly a creaking sound versus a rattle.
For any engineers reading this- it clearly sounds like as the body rolls and torques over bumps and any speed bump-like hump, the rear end creaks with each torque like things are not tight (welded?) in the back- like the hatch is just down tight but moving laterally. The noise has gotten progressively worse AFTER all the dealer "fixes". HELP anyone?

BTW I just got the preconditioning upgrade and the eco mode is basically uselessly slow per other posts here.

As an FYI, after having our 2022 SE for seven months and 6500 miles, we started getting a rattling from the rear trunk.
The "day 1 a bloody rattle" thread had been on the front page for MONTHS so I knew there was a solution here somewhere.

I ended up doing a shotgun approach - the two most common "solutions" I read in the above threads listed on response #2 above
  • I applied a bit of gaffer tape on the actual latch mechanism
  • I applied a small bit of soft velcro on the plastic alignment pieces
This has fixed my rattle.
If you haven't done the same, they're both trivial to try and easily removed if you're unhappy.

Update for the "rattle". I put some 1/4" closed foam window insulation on the plastic alignment pieces and it worked! for about 2 miles. The foam just won't last. I Will try the soft velcro (I misinformed you- did not try that specifically) and hope it solves the problem. The velcro is much stickier and will have less deformity than the foam- Thanks! Stay tuned.
On that same note- why has this issue not come up more? Clearly the hard plastic alignment pieces can be re-designed with another friendlier material.

Added 150 mil sound proofing/heat insulating foam with 3M heavy duty 2 way tape. So far so good. Foam is compressed. There is a weird strike pattern on the hatch. Seems like the leading edge of the foam would show contact. Shows the hatch is being craddled when closed.

I am sitting at the dealership waiting on them to attempt to adjust part of my rear latch assembly or order a new one. It catches, but is not snug which is causing the creaking when I hit uneven road which is basically every time I drive in my city.

My service advisor suggested that I call Hyundai Consumer Affairs dept. I di and explained what has happened. They escalated my case and are now in touch with my dealership and using a Hyundai field rep to try to solve the problem. The Ioniq 5 is now in the shop and I'm awaiting results. I'll report back here.

I suggest you call Hyundai corporate as well and register the issue. They claimed that I was the first they had heard of this creaking issue... I forwarded to them links from this forum to show that it more widespread than they know.

As promised- here is an update: My Ioniq 5 has been in the shop for 12 days now and the local Hyundai FSE (Field Service Expert- I think) has been involved. They have replaced the trunk latch and done numerous other attempts to fix the noise with no success.
This morning I got this update: They have ordered a part that is on National Back Order. No ETA. Korea is in the works on developing a new pad for the noise.

Not good...

Yes. Having the same issue. The dealership said it is a problem however no fix. They are waiting for Hyundai to give them information. I called Hyundai and now have a case manager? Don't know what that is going to do. They told me to take it back to the dealership. I called another dealership and they said if one dealership couldn't fix why do I think they can. Really not happy. I will continue to push the dealership and Hyundai USA. I will keep pushing until I get it fixed.

Thank you. Did they give you a loaner car for the 12 days in shop?
