I believe I have free updates for my Tom Tom satnav for 7 years. However, I can find nothing in my Ioniq Hybrid Premium SE books to tell me how to do this. Has anyone done it yet?

I think I heard or read that this takes place during the annual maintenance.

unfortunately not, the only way to update maps is by dealer

i am nearly at 8000 miles so my service should be soon and i will see if they can do the map updates at that time

i will take a photo of the system information screen on the media unit and see if the map version changes

Maps are in a SD card that can be taken off by yourself. The dealer told me you can update it on your computer (as far as you have an SD reader of course) or ask them when you go for maintenance. He plugged into my car in front of me. It came separate from the car instruction, so you may look in your car for the envelope and the additional instructions.
Hope this helps. Let me if you can make it work!

Marina,
Interesting infos! We should just understand a) where's the sd card located, is it on the cockpit? And b) where to download map updates from? Maybe from some Hyundai website or from TomTom? With what credentials?
So much curious, still waiting for my Ioniq ☺

while my car was I for the media centre recall today I asked about the map updates, the tech was very helpful and said he was just downloading the most recent updates on the machine they use to update the SD cards he would see if the Ioniq was included

just before I left he came over just to let me know the Ioniq has map update available on the system but until it downloaded he couldn't give me more details

it is on my file to do when the car goes in for service in a few weeks time

My dealer said that the SatNav would update its map automatically. Not being wholly convinced by this I emailed Hyundai UK and they telephoned me yesterday to say that TomTom updates the map annually at around October time. If I contact my dealer then they will update the map free of charge. It will take about 40 mins. The caller also mentioned that the 7 years free updates has recently been increased to 10 years. So, I will contact my dealer early November and see what transpires. Watch this space.

I just did my first real drive since getting the car this week. Driving along the 14 heading towards the M6 I was disappointed to find that the Catworth interchange road improvements have not been recognised on the sat nav. This change to the road has taken years but had been completed earlier in the year. So a shame that the sat nav is out of date. Could really do with a way of updating the maps much more often.

Navmaps outdating is a generic problem in all build-in navigation systems. If you want to be up to date the only way is google maps, and even then its not realistic to expect accurate data of less than a year old. Thats the way it is. So I suggest to take a look on Android Auto. Believe me, AA has a lot of other disadvantages over the Ioniqs satnav.

Prior to picking up the car I used Waze. Waze has maps that are updated by users so it is incredibly up to date. In the area where I had a problem , when the roadworks were still ongoing it was frightening how up to date it was, clearly some people are very dedicated map editors. I was just disappointed that such a significant road change went unnoticed in a recent map update. I know next week I am travelling to another company office and I know the roads have changed around there quite significantly with several villages being bypassed. So I am expecting the sat nav to completely lose itself unless the map has been updated.

Ioniqs satnav updates are NOT online available. Only accessible through the dealership. Forget all rumours or information on the Hyundai online update pages. Why it is arranged this way? Nobody knows. My Honda Insight also used HERE maps which could be purchased and installed by the user. A European map update was priced for around 185 euro !. It was placed on a strong encrypted high resolution SD card. Installation needed a decryption key, Hardware ID, Disk key and software ID Number. And were these maps actual?. Forget it.More than 3 years behind, running through the greens for finding adresses, or wandering around in circles ending up in the water.
I believe its all related to map ownership protection from HERE, making it difficult for software pirates to distribute illegal copies.
My recent decision is to let it go, forget card updates and trust on WAZE combined with Android Auto for real up to date, easy and user friendly navigation.

I was surprised by Waze, it has an uncanny knock of routing around hold-ups without any prompting, there is one little know back street I use when traffic is heavy, but Waze directed me down this street, tne ioniq, tom tom go6000 and google maps did not, and I'm surprised how up-to date it is

Android is so much more flexible and universal than IOS. The latest Iphone 8 will cost 999 euro. OMG, That feels like a bad joke. Which moreon is paying this fortune for a smartphone with no more than a 3 year lifetime?
I have a low midrange Sony Xperia XA for less than 200 euro and can do everything I want with it. Even consider rooting it after the guarantee period.
For OBD2 adapters you need to be very careful. There is a lot of junk on the market. I selected the OBDLink-LX adapter for 89 euro. It connects and communicates very fast. Konwei also have good ELM327 compliant adapters.
Still working on a useable Pid set voor the Ioniq hybrid. Jejusoul soon will be back from holidays. Trust we can make progress then.

I think it must download as you drive, I don't have sufficient memory in my phone to store maps, but my mobile data usage is very low
From Waze Web site :-https://support.google.com/waze/answer/6078702?hl=en
Waze was built assuming a data network connection would be present all, or at least most, of the time. For all aspects of Waze to operate, you must have an active data connection on your mobile device. This connection enriches Waze with real-time traffic related information and ensures an up-to-date map. Without an internet connection, you won't be able to locate or navigate a route.

If you have an intermittent connection, Waze will try to get data from the servers for traffic alerts and hazards, but may not be able to give you reliable information. Additionally, if Waze doesn't have a connection back to the Waze servers, you will not be able to post hazards. Waze does not cache reports or map issues to send later.

So are you using that phone just for Android Auto and Waze then? and not as your regular phone?

I'm thinking about possibly doing that myself. But at the same time, I'm also trying to track down why my data usage seems to have gone up so much in the last few months on my iPhone.

Being in Canada, I'll have different options, so I'll have to investigate. I think though we have nothing that come compare with £2.99/month, so may not be worth it. But I'll investigate all the same. Mobile phone packages are ridiculously pricey in Canada; there's not enough competition. Just three big telecoms that basically overcharge the **** out of everyone.

Another option, if I can solve my data usage problem is add a cheap Android to my existing share-everything plan to use for Android Auto.

But I'm not committed to doing any of this yet. Just trying to get ideas of feasibility and costs for now.

.
Don't forget android auto requires Android 5 or higher, I have one phone I love to use but it is android 4.4 and does not support Android Auto :(
Just did a Google search for Canada sim only deals, they seem to be very expensive

Okay, I've done some research and experimentation.

Buying an Android phone in Canada, just to use for Android Auto really isn't financially feasible. You have to buy the phone first (new or used), then you're looking at paying at minimum $30/month for a plan with voice, text and data. There don't seem to be any data only plans available in Canada. Even adding it as a second line to my existing share-everything plan, would be an extra $30 a month just for the line.

I do have a 7" Lenovo Tab3 Android tablet, which I was able to sideload Android Auto onto, and could get it to appear on the tablet's screen, however, when I plugged it into the Ioniq, the infotainment system only looked for media files and did not bring up Android Auto, probably because it's a tablet and not a phone.

I then thought about just getting an unlocked Android phone and tethering it to my iPhone's mobile data instead of getting a SIM card and contract for it. For proof of concept, I took my old iPhone 6 and tethered it to my current iPhone 6S and plugged the 6 into the Ioniq. CarPlay opened fine and accessed Apple Maps no problem, through the tethered connection. However, while Bluetooth initially remained connected between the 6S and the Ioniq, as soon as I tried to make a test phone call from the 6S, Bluetooth disconnected, and would not reconnect until I unplugged the 6 from the car.

Under this scenario, it probably would still be possible to make a phone call using CarPlay, as I can still make and receive calls on the 6 using the 6S's connection, but why not just plug the 6S directly into the car then. And that would not work with a non-SIM'd Android phone without a separate VOIP app.

Then there's also the only other feature CarPlay is good for: having SIRI read and reply to text messages. With a separate Android phone, that couldn't happen for my iPhone 6S number that everyone uses to text me.

So I've decided not to add anything additional to the setup. I already have a stand-alone Garmin GPS, which works well, and I don't do too much peak hour driving and I can always check traffic using Google Maps on my iPhone before setting off. As for music. I have a larger music library on my legacy iPod, which I can either plug into the USB port to use the car's controls to skip tracks and so forth (when I'm not using the iPhone for CarPlay), or plug in directly to the Aux audio port next to it and run another cable from the USB port in the armrest to keep the legacy iPod charged, when I'm using the front USB port for CarPlay; I just have to use the iPod controls to skip tracks, etc.

Just a hunch: don't US simcards work in Canada? I seem to remember there are sim card solutions available that include Mexico, US _and_ Canada? For close to nothing?
