I have cancelled my Ioniq 5 order in favor of the Ioniq 6. Here are my reasons.
- I am 73, and my wife and I do not need an SUV or crossover. A sedan suits us for a number of reasons.
- I love the exterior styling even more than that of the Ioniq 5, especially the rear end, which does not so much imitate the Porsche 911 Turbo S as improve upon it.
- The interior design, especially the center console, which is much more practical and functional than the Ioniq 5's floating island and beats any competitor consoles I've seen. Very thoughtful design.
- The Ioniq 5 is a very quiet car, but the Ioniq 6, as a sedan, will have even less rear end road noise intrusion, and with a 30% lower coefficient of drag, less wind noise.
- Increased efficiency yielding greater range than the Ioniq 5, making it a true Model 3 competitor for range, with better build quality, an established and more convenient service model, a much more thoughtfully designed interior and UE, and a lower price than the Model 3.
- I never liked the wide white bezel surrounding the displays. The aluminum-framed black bezel looks much better in my opinion.
- I prefer the Ioniq 5 glass roof to the Ioniq 6 sun roof.
- Judging by reviews, the driver assistance software is pretty good but needs some work with regard to accuracy in rainy and low light conditions.
- Navigation needs a route planner that effectively locates and suggests charging stops, with real time availability information. One could use A Better Route Planner, but I assume this would not display turning information on the HUD.
- I hope North American versions will offer the passenger relaxation seat with controls that can be manipulated by the driver. I think it was a bad decision by Hyundai not to offer this option on the NA Ioniq 5, and that they should reverse this decision for the Ioniq 6. I would find this VERY useful, as my wife has health issues that prevent her adjusting her own seat.
