Proximity Auto Unlock not working consistently

I am in Australia and have a 2022 AWD model. About 20% of the time when I approach the car with my smart key (inevitably when I have groceries in my arms and my key is in my pocket), the car does not recognise that I am right next to the door and the doors do not unlock. When I told the dealer about it before they of course could not replicate the problem. I have now taken video of it to show the dealer, but have others had this problem?

I've found my fob will often not link with the car when I have my earbuds in the same pocket (when going to the gym). I'm assuming it is due to the magnets inside the earbuds and their charging case.

Related, I also have a fob for my Indian motorcycle and know that other metallic objects (other keys, pocketknife, phone) can attenuate the RF signal and cause problems with communication. You might see if you have other things in your pocket that might interfere with the fob's transmission.

Yeah I have same model in Aus. Car won’t unlock sometimes, though not often. Haven’t been able to come up with explanation. My working hypothesis is that I might have done something to the fob when I changed the fob battery (?)

I also have the issue of the outside mirrors unfolding but the car doors refusing to unlock. Agree it is strange, and not sure if that behaviour supports or challenges my fob hypothesis.

Be aware that if you operate the trunk, then the auto-unlock won't work at least for a while.

Example: Approach the car and use remote to open trunk and put something in. Close trunk and then when you walk around to driver's door it won't unlock automatically.
Typically I enter garage and walk up to car first thing in morning and it unlocks. But some mornings it doesn’t. Similar behaviour in car parks - sometimes it unlocks and (rarely) sometimes not.

That said, thanks for the info on trunk operation. I was aware of the effect but didn’t know exactly how it worked.

So have been to the dealer three times on this one, because every time I want the car to unlock when I have my hands full it doesn’t. Of course, the dealer can never replicate. The most recent theory did have to do with electronic interference: to try to isolate the problem they asked me to see whether it happens when I don’t have my phone with me. That was.a bit of a pain, having to plant the phone out of range of the car, unlock it (or not) and then go get the phone. Thankfully ??? The problem occurs even when I don’t have the phone.
