I've read about the heating problem with higher current L2 charging where the car will stop the charge cycle before the job is complete. I'm not sure this is the same problem. Up until recently, the car will take the full current in a continuous swallow until the car is charged. Now, the car charges and then stops for a while. Some time later the charging will start up again. Last night it went through several cycles before hitting the 80% set point. See photo.
Is the car starting and stopping the charging?
Is the Chargepoint charger starting and stopping the charging?
Is this the same problem that others have been seeing with the over heating issue at the car charge port?
I am running the Chargpoint charger at 48A. It was reletively cool last night in the garage at 55 degrees F. At least, when I got up this morning, the car was charged to 80%.
If this ends up being the over heat issue, then a solution would be to lower the charge current. It looks to me that the only way to limit the charge current on my Chargepoint is to re-register it which I am reluctant to do since it is tied in with my power company account and I'm not sure what is needed to re-establish that if I re-register. Is there a way to limit the incoming current on the car side of cable?
Thanks.
