Hello All,

I've decided to buy a 2019 Ioniq Hybrid Limited. The only questions now are the color (I'm between Silver and Gray) and the Ultimate Package. I've searched the internet and found a number of people who have the Ultimate Package saying they thought it was worth it, but I haven't found anyone saying they regret not getting it. I also haven't found any side-by-side opinions, though I can understand why.

So, doors anyone have any thoughts on whether or not to get the Ultimate Package?

I'm particularly interested in comparing the audio setups. Is the improvement in sound quality between the two packages substantial? How does the standard audio compare? If it's the sort of thing where the audio in the standard package is very good to begin with, then maybe I'll just stick with the standard package.

Thank you!

The Infinity systems that Hyundai uses are some of the best stock systems I've had over the years. Stock audio is all full range, and no sub in the back. The NAV is nice to have, as is the sunroof. The Qi charger is handy. Also, the smart cruise is great. Had the bending headlights on another car, and are a nice feature to have again. I suppose it comes down to how much more the Ultimate car is vs. the non, and what you are comfortable with paying.

I have the Ultimate package. It's been a couple of years so I don't remember precisely everything different about it than the regular limited but I believe the cornering lights, the sound system and the sunroof were the main differences. I couldn't care less about a sunroof but I really like the cornering lights and the sound system is fantastic. It also has the 8" display but that might not be specific to the ultimate package.
Looking it up, the ultimate package also includes
  • Bluelink - worth it for remote start, remote lock and unlock. I use it primarily when I can't remember if I locked it or not.
  • Rear parking sensors - not worth it by themselves since it has a good camera anyway
  • Drivers seat memory - I love this feature. My fiancee and I both drive the car and this makes it so easy.
  • Infinity premium audio - I love this and is one of the reasons I chose the package. I can't speak for the difference between the two systems though.
  • Cornering headlights - Another feature I really love and was the deciding factor for choosing that package for me.
  • Cargo cover - Mine's in storage but people really like it and it can lessen road noise. You can get one separately anyway.
  • Rear console vents - they're nice but it's not a huge car so not really necessary either.
  • 8" infotainment system with nav. Nav is ok but with Android auto and carplay, it's not so necessary. The 8" display is nice though.
I guess the sunroof is just part of the limited trim.

If your dealer has both versions on the lot then take a test drive of equal length in each and bring the music that you listen to everyday on a USB stick. Drive around, listen, see what you think.

I trialled both the USB audio and Bluetooth audio on all of my test drives before picking a vehicle, and the audio system was a major factor in my going with the Ioniq PHEV over the Niro PHEV. Unfortunately the Niro was not the top trim as the Kia dealer had none of those available, for all I know its audio system would have been equivalent to the PHEV Ultimate's and it would have been one less strike against it. In the Niro that I did get to drive the audio was just so... thin.

For the 2019 models, the Ultimate Package includes:

  1. Dynamic Bending Lights
  2. Rear parking sensors
  3. 8-inch infotainment (instead of 7") with Nav
  4. Infinity Premium Audio with Clari-Fi
  5. Wireless Qi charger
  6. Complimentary Blue Link Guidance package for 3 years
  7. Driver's seat memory
  8. Rear console vents
  9. Cargo cover*
*I'm getting the cargo cover one way or another

The sunroof and Bluelink remote come with the standard package on the Limited trim.

MSRP for the Ultimate Package is $2,200, but in practice the cost is more like $1,500.

@COIONIQ - the high beam is also standard on the Limited Trim. Also, when you say "The Infinity systems that Hyundai uses are some of the best stock systems I've had over the years" does that mean that the standard package also includes an Infinity system? I know that the Ultimate Package includes "Infinity Premium Audio."

This is just my opinion but I did not see the extra value to justify the Cost of the Ultimate upgrade.

  1. Dynamic Bending Lights - Never had them, so no big deal
  2. Rear parking sensors - Great Back up Camera already
  3. 8-inch infotainment (instead of 7") with Nav - I have AA and use Waze
  4. Infinity Premium Audio with Clari-Fi - I think my current Audio is great
  5. Wireless Qi charger - I guess this would be nice, but my phone has great battery life and I can always plug it in
  6. Complimentary Blue Link Guidance package for 3 years - Really same as 3
  7. Driver's seat memory - I'm the only one driving the car so again not a big deal for me
  8. Rear console vents - Don't have a lot a passengers
  9. Cargo cover* - Got that with mine anyway
Just my thoughts on why I did not go for the upgrade

I have the Ultimate package and have enjoyed it. The Infinity speakers are awesome. Because my wife is about 10+ inches shorter then I the memory seats are a must. Large media center is appreciated as is NAV. Use it all the time. If you are purchasing a 2019 you should get get a better price because they are already a year old since the 2020 is out. Good luck.

I just bought a 2019 with the ultimate package. Got the car for 28 and some change out the door, so the package was almost free. Don't know if I will like it or not, but I didn't like the new tablet dash. I have that in my truck and it sucks trying to use it. I have to take my eyes off the road to push the buttons and my hand is moving up and down as the truck is moving up and down and it sucks... With buttons I can glance over and push it. The rest of the 2020 is a nice improvemenet but I buy a car to drive it and I keep them for twenty years or more, since I'm sixty, I figure this will probably be the last new car I every buy, so it better be nice. Actually I hope to end up on a boat pretty soon and never have to drive again, I really hate driving, and would rather be doing anything else, hmmm, like typing on a forum. LOL!

Update: I ended up going with the Ultimate Package. It was a tough call. The sound system was the deciding factor for me. I sat in both versions of the car at the dealer and worked through a playlist of select songs that I thought would highlight a variety of strengths and weaknesses with the systems. Ultimately (pun not intended), it was the song "Nude" by Radiohead that really showed me how the Infinity Premium audio system shines. The stock system was no slouch, though. Really a close call!

Thank you all for your input! Any tips for resources (including forum posts) that a new Ioniq Hybrid owner should read?
