When I first took possession of my I5 in March 2022, I looked around on the Internet for useful information. One of the places I found is "Recurrent" which seemed to have lots of information, and they also send me reports monthly about how my I5 is doing. I received the latest report today and it occurred to me that others might want to be aware of this organization. If so, here's the URL:Recurrent | Used Electric Cars Aren't Measured in Miles

One of the items I discovered in my most recent visit was an e-book about battery technology and degradation. Here's the link to that: Should I Buy an Electric Car?

That link is to the longer explanation for potential buyers, but the guide to battery technology (a 14-page e-book) is within that link.

After posting, I found the link to the e-book on battery technology: https://uploads-ssl.webflow.com/60c...N0Zg2a42cjP1NETHrqDHFlTPNgq1XkYg&utm_content=191046484&utm_source=hs_automation

Good find. What do the reports look like? I can’t easily see one on the site, although I haven’t looked through the longer document you mention.

Bringing this one back from the dead as Recurrent is really doing an amazing job!

In addition to the monthly reports you can sign up for , and data on used EV battery health for those looking to take advantage of the used EV rebates, they're starting to take this huge, objective trove of data and are looking into trends.

They were the data source for the report about tesla falsifying range at musk's order.

Digging deeper, they've also expanded to:
  • State Guidelines and Comparisons on EV adoption and Charging.
  • Used EV guides giving you general information on various EV models, ie: lowest observed range they're seeing on the IONIQ 5 is 229 miles vs, say, Model Y at 207 miles
It's really cool seeing this kind of data aggregation so you can compare your experience range wise with other IONIQ 5 owners and other EV owners in general!

Here's an update to the screen shot I provided 8 months ago:

This looks interesting but in the end I decided no. Maybe I am being paranoid but:

  • Not sure I want to let any third part have access to my vehicle through my connected account? Seems like it could be a security risk
  • Likewise I am not sure I want any third party collecting VIN specific data on the condition of my vehicle. I know they say they only ping the vehicle 3 times a day and do not track where you’re driving, just the battery’s state and your overall mileage.
They seems pretty open about who back them and fund them but it seems at least part of their revenue model is collecting VIN specific data. That said I can definitely see the value of the data they are collecting across a broad range of vehicles and driving conditions to get a better understanding of how an EV's overall health ages with time and driving conditions.

As I say I am probably being paranoid......
