Passenger folding mirror only works partially

So today I noticed that the passenger folding mirror does not fold/unfold completely. It seems a bit random how far it will fold/unfold, but almost always it doesn't go all the way. Sometimes only as little as half a centimeter.

There is no grinding sound from the motor, it just stops. And if I "help" the mirror while locking or unlocking the car it works like it is supposed to. Anyone have any idea? I can't see or feel any damage to the mirror itself, and manually moving it feels normal (like the one on the driver's side, which works perfectly).

And I have of course checked that all switches are in the right position. The mirrors were never completely in sync, but at least it used to fold/unfold completely.

I managed to give mine a bash by reversing it against a narrow garage pillar, strained it scratched the shell a bit. After that it was doing like you say, only opening/closing about 3/4 the way. So I managed to lever off the cover, not sure what I did inside but maybe sprayed with silicone grease or something, clipped it back together & it's been fine since! Somewhere in here, bodywork section maybe, I posted pics of how to dismantle it, needs a lot of thin plastic credit-cards/similar tools to lever it apart! But it can be done!

edit: found the link! Side (wing) mirror cap (cover) removal
Interesting. I will take a look. I don't want to deliver the car to the dealer and be without it if not necessary, but I have sent them an email just in case :) I can't see any damage to the mirror, but I park at at public parking garage at work, so something could definitely have happened to it without me noticing. Or maybe it just needs some lubrication. As I mentioned, it works if I help it.
