Try to pry the plastic off, use a plastic tool like a body panel tool, it just might be the cap without the tab that would usually be there

Should I try cutting open that cap? I’m up creek without a paddle at the moment. Dealers remedy is to sell me an upgraded car, take a negative position on this car and carry it to the new loan and have to repay most of the government grants. Not a Remedy at all
Don't cut it. The dealer needs to resolve this and pay everything for it, so don't give them any excuse.

Hmm, looking at the trims available for Canada, seems the Preferred offers "EV Ultra Fast Charger (up to 800V) " over the Essential: 2022 IONIQ 5 | Models and Features | Hyundai Canada

Perhaps Hyundai removed all DCFC capabilities for the Essential variant, if so that's a worrying trend and needs to be much better documented (and understood by dealers).

Hoping for you this is a mistake on Hyundai's part (or there is a way to remove the cap) 🙏🏼

I looked at the technical specs on that site. The left column is the "essential" showing that it should be able to DC charge, but it is bizarre they are calling that an extra feature, when all of them charge the same, as per the specs.

This has got to be a mistake of some kind. One of the main ideas of the 800 volt architecture is to take advantage of DC charging.
The Essential Canadian trim is 53kWh battery. The specifications indicate it is not 800V architecture and does not have the ability to charge at the fast rate of charge as Hyundai advertises for the higher capacity trims, aka 77.4kWh . That being said, it should have DC charge port.

Apologies for my skepticism, that is pretty amazing!

Have you physically shown this to the dealer? It's clearly a defect and they should offer warranty repair, just like they would if you had a broken turn signal or any other flaw. Sell you a trim upgrade, really? If they refuse to help you should contact Hyundai corporate, describe the problem, and report the dealer. Also let everyone here know who they are so they can be avoided.

Good luck!

Hello,

I just bought an Ioniq 5 with no DC charge port/level 3. Is this common? And is it upgradable to level 3? I have the Ioniq 5 essential with the 55kw battery and rear wheel drive. We bought it with the understanding we had level 3 for our longer drives. However, 1 month later to our surprise we found out the hard way while on a road trip. Dealership thought the vehicle had it as well. Any suggestions on upgrading?
Wow, I really thought Essentials weren't sold to customers as they're very clearly a compliance trim made to meet requirements of the old rebate MSRP limits. I had heard that only 10 needed to be shipped to Canada to meet those requirements. Can I ask how much you paid for it?

I wouldn't expect much from this car since I don't think Hyundai ever expected anyone to buy one.

Interesting...in 2023 no Fast DC charging option.
I would not try to cut or do anything ....go back to the service department and let them find out if your vehicle is equipped with option for fast DC charging.
If not equipped....you have fancy grocery getter that is only good for L1 or L2 AC EVSE charging.

Here's the original 2022 product guide. 'EV Ultra Fast Charger' is shown as a feature only on Preferred. I think the lack of DC charging is entirely intentional.

Hard to believe I finding all I this out now. I paid $54,000 CAD after the $10,000 government rebate

Maybe the specs are out of date, but the '22 MY specs give estimated charging times for DCFC, which would imply an actual ability to do so! Even if you have a MY 23, it would be hard to believe Hyundai removed that feature?!! It does seem that the 58 kWh battery runs at a lower voltage than the larger battery, but that should in no way affect your ability to fast charge it.

I would seek legal advice...... this is big issue if you have to live with AC EVSE charging only. Take as many pictures of advertising materials and announcements by Hyundai Canada... and see with lawyer what you can do about this.

It could be a cap that you could pull off. I would try that but also take to dealer since dc-fast-charge ports are standards across all trims.

I thought I was following minimalism to get the preferred standard range. My main concern for the essential trim was it is not equipped for Canadian winter due to no heat pump and battery heater. Don’t recall the difference in the fast charging capability though. Did I really miss that part?
