Deleted, didn't realise Genesis is Hyundai brand!

 

It looks like a great car. My only concerns, apart from price, relate to interior dimensions. I’m 192 cm & need a lot of head & leg room. And have yet to see specs. I’ll watch with interest though.

 

No, will be more money and not easily available in the UK.

 

I think the GV60 looks amazing... the interior especially. I'm a little worried that I won't be satisfied with the pretty bare bones interior on the I5 AWD. But the price on the Genesis will be $10k more and that's more than I want to spend. Maybe in the next iteration of car buying it will be a contender for me!

 

I wouldn't call the interior of the i5 bare bones. I would call the interior of the Tesla Model Y bare bones, that's why I couldn't get around to paying over $60k for it. My other car is a Lincoln Navigator Black Label, and other than the 30-way power seats, I don't miss anything on the Limited. Heated steering wheels, heated/cooled seats, almost matches all items that would be considered luxury in the past.

The i5 is just so well executed, I couldn't see myself paying another $10K for the Genesis.

 

I have the I5 Limited and am thinking about getting the GV60 but will probably get the Lexus RZ450e with less range instead because I want quality which Lexus is known for. As for @DeeHarps comment, don't worry about not being satisfied with the bare bones interior, it feels very spacious. That is the only reason that is stopping me from going to Lexus or GV because that center console in those cars takes up a lot of space where as the I5 feels airy/roomy.

 

I'm in the UK where pre-orders for the three GV60 models opened in March. I pre-ordered the base RWD model but I'm still awaiting notification from Genesis about configuring my actual order. I gather that this is done in conjunction with a Genesis Personal Assistant. This individual provides the link to the company for all the pre and post purchase requirements that the customer will have as the Genesis brand does not work through the established Hyundai dealerships. How this will work in practise I've no idea but I guess is a nod towards the Tesla business model.

The advertised price for the RWD model here is £47k. This compares to around £42k for the equivalent Ioniq 5, which is my current vehicle. I'll have to get a good price for that one if I'm going to be able to finance this deal If the GV60 comes available in June I'm hoping that my early pre-order will mean I'm towards the head of the queue, although I expect that the versions they want to sell first will be the main factor.

I think the I5 is a “halo car” for Hyundai. That may be why their ads are in heavy rotation despite long wait times to get one. It is very well executed and can satisfy those used to luxury labels as @pp77 indicated.

The GV60 is a step up in poshness with little in the way of range or usable power enhancement. Given the number of electric offerings in the Genesis line (GV90, eGV70, eG80), it is more of a “halo brand.”

The eGV70 is of much greater interest to me. I strongly considered a 2.5T Sport Prestige ice model before deciding to wait on the I5. The GV60 jellybean body style doesn’t do it for me.

I was super interested in the GV60 until I saw the price of the IONIQ5 Limited. I ended up with that. I don't think there's a chance in **** the GV60 isn't 75k+ fully loaded and it's just going to be so expensive honestly, probably at least 10k more than the IONIQ5/EV6 to start or more, it's ludicrously completive with audi et-al struggling to build EVs in that space let alone compete ons pecs.

Is the interior way better - for sure - but the IONIQ5 is already better than anything I've owned before (audi, porsche included). Exterior wise I think it's the most pleasant of the bunch too... but cost... we'll see when pricing is announced.

 

SUPPOSEDLY, the GV60 will only be offered in four US states initially and SUPPOSEDLY this Spring (which is now). No evidence any vehicles have actually arrived though. As nice as the car may or may not be, I don’t expect any reasonable availability this year. The thought about GV60 vs Ioniq5 Limited seems to be more of an issue for 2023…maybe beyond. I’d go for whichever one I could get my hands on first and right now that appears to be neither.

The marketplace is very odd. This is the first time in lots of decades that I’ve been ready/willing/able to buy a car and absolutely cannot get the one(s) I want. Even the Tesla Model 3 was easier to get back in early 2018 than today. Sheesh!

 

My dealer which is a combo Genesis / Hyundai dealer said that normally they would have 400 cars on the lot selling half per month. Guess what, they had 30 cars on the lot three days ago…

I agree, the only folks that are getting one this year in Canada are the ones that preordered as soon as their availability was announced in February. That said I think there will be some inevitable cancellations once they actually announce pricing.

The GV60 looks nice but I would be a little concerned about the 20 cm shorter wheelbase compared to the I5, you can see the difference with backseat legroom on review videos, also the rear seat headroom is fairly minimal if the seat back is reclined any degree from the fully upright position. I initially thought I would not like the I5 faux leather seating vs actual Nappa in the GV60 but now that I have the I5 surprisingly I really like the ultimate seating. I also have a order in on a GV60 Performance. The the weird thing is my Hyundai dealer was super excited from the get go about my I5 order and has treated me exceptionally with frequent updates and ultimately with an over the top delivery experience. Meanwhile the "premium" Genesis experience has been the total opposite and with complete radio silence. I am really confused about this.

 

If I have to wait to get Ioniq 5 limited, my next candidate is that once VW sorts itself out, most likely the Audi Q4 e-Tron premium plus edition which is just about the same price as Ioniq 5 Limited ($56k). I MAY splurge $2k or so extra for Prestige. Not GV60 which will probably be about 60K+ at minimum.

 

I like the way the GV60 looks and would prefer that one if I could afford both. Although I have a warning as a previous Genesis owner, if your country doesn't have a independent Genesis dealer and it's merged together with a Hyundai dealer, then don't ever expect "luxury" customer service; expect Hyundai level of customer service.

 

Boys ... I plunked down a thousand bucks for a Genesis GV60 pre-order yesterday. I was shocked to receive a phone call from the dealership today telling me he expects my vehicle to be ready in AUGUST OR SEPTEMBER OF THIS YEAR! Is he delusional and overly optimistic? Maybe ... but the race between my two pre-orders is on! (It's also necessary that the Genesis cost no more than $65,000.00 so I can get the $5,000.00 iZev rebate or else I will cancel)

Maybe the fact it costs twice as much to pre-order a Genesis vs an Ioniq 5 inclined fewer people to put in a pre-order?
