It shouldn't be hard to disable the module in a way which mimics having no signal, which the system tolerates perfectly fine.
Yeah unplugging the antenna going to the shark fin on the roof or unplugging the antenna wires going to the module. The module should stay plugged in but either way you're pulling apart half the car to unplug the antenna wires on either end.

The facts still remains, if this is a major concern for you you should just avoid this car & many cars like it. The point of the connectivity is like half the reason you'd want it. Furthermore just getting to a charger and checking to see if it's occupied or not would likely require you to have a cell phone which would make all the work you did disabling the connectivity pointless. Not to mention it's way easier to track someone from a cell phone than a car.

While I fully agree with your privacy concerns getting an electric vehicle is just not going to be a good idea if you're that concerned about it. There is so much built into the car that requires connectivity that deterring (or stopping) that connectivity probably affects some essential functions - I would be really concerned about secondary (and unknown) side effects. Get yourself a good ICE vehicle and be happy without the connected functions found in every EV.

I'm trying to think of all the things the car could NOT do if you succeed.

Definitely down:
No navigation system.
No routing to Chargers.
No battery preconditioning.
No Bluelink.
No emergency contact via Bluelink
No OTA updates (Not that this would matter, since nothing would work for the update to update).
No Traffic Data
No Weather data

Questionable:
No clock, so:
No at home charging schedule.
Bluetooth connection of phone???
Bluetooth connection to tires???

Plus - if you're carrying a cellphone, "they" can track all of the stuff you're worried about the car company tracking anyway - PLUS, all of your contacts, texts, etc.
Sure, data security is an issue - but I see it the same as microplastics... nothing I can do about it, so why worry?

As I said the other day in a different thread, nothing I worry about ever happens, so it must work. ;)

There are already slightly more cells in your body that contain "foreign" DNA than yours, so what's a little additional plastic in your cells going to hurt?

Hyundai has no Bluelink service here in NZ but my 2018 Kona has a "Telematics" switch in the engineering menus, as has been mentioned. I've tried switching it 'on' and it appears to try and connect to a cellular service but none exists. Another Kona owner removed the modem from the media unit. Just stuff for interest even though it's not an I6.

Another possibility might to disconnect the relevant antennas by dropping the rear edge of the headliner.

View attachment 55890 I suspect the highlighted options means the hardware is present.
What's interesting is that in the Ioniq 5 Engineering menu (not accessible in MY 2025 cars) in the U.S. the "Telematics" can be turned off but not "Modem". Can anyone in Europe confirm if it is the same situation there?

I'm super interested in what essential functions of the car are rendered useless by "disconnecting" it and why they can't just be replaced with a phone?
What is "it"? If the "it" is "Telematics", it can be turned off in Standard Gen5W head units' Engineering mode without rendering useless any of the essential functions of the car.

Hi there,

Is there an easy way to disable the modem and telematics completely? I've already turned off Bluelink, but the modem and GPS navigation are still enabled.
From what I read recently, it seems that both the 2024 and the 2025 Ioniq 6 have the Gen5W infotainment system, so it should be possible to access the Engineering mode and turn off "Telematics", which might accomplish what you are looking for. If you need help accessing the Engineering mode, let me know -- I will give you some steps that should work.

Correct. We have a 2025 Ioniq6 Limited…it has the Gen5W system, unlike our 2025 Ioniq5 Limited with the ccNC system.

Saying "your phone tracks you too" isn't the best reply. You don't know if he has his phone tracking turned off.. He could have his phone set up to a dummy identity..
He does have his tracking turned off, but I can still see him. On his way home from work now. The algorithm says he'll buy something off Amazon later and watch some ESPN before going to bed early.
