Chargepoint Home Flex Level 2

I bought the hardwired version. I'm confused by the listing of all different amperages? Shouldn'te a certain wire size for one ameperage?

AC Power Output Rating
Maximum 12 kW (240V AC * 50A). Output amperage adjustable via mobile app to 16A, 24A, 32A, 40A, 48A, 50A.

AC Power Input Rating
208/240V AC 60 Hz single phase @ 16A, 24A, 32A, 40A, 48A, 50A

A while back ChargePoint had a whole line of chargers and you purchased the one that was appropriate for the circuit you were going to install it on. For example you might have purchased a Home 40 for installation on a 50 amp circuit. That whole line was replaced by the Flex which, as the name implies, is flexible about what power it can deliver.

If you are hardwiring it then you probably have a 60 amp circuit so the EVSE can be set to 48 amps. I have a 50 amp circuit so mine is set to deliver no more than 40 amps. Someone else might install it on a 30 or even 20 amp circuit and would need to configure it for 24 amps or even 16 amps.

Anyway, because you can configure it for all those different amperages, they list what they can support.
