I have always been a fan of OSMAnd (which stands for Ordinance Survey Map for Android mapping app as it covers virtually the whole world, can be used off line, is very comprehensive and user friendly with monthly updates. All this is for the paid version, which from memory is about £5 on Playstore.
I have just updated it and it says it is now compatable with and can be used trough Android Auto. I haven't tested it yet though.
