WINDOW TINTING ADVICE NEEDED

8197 Views 39 Replies 20 Participants Last post by  Hsiaotsu
I have an I5 Limited that I was going to have the windshield and front windows tinted at 70% to cut down on UV. Then I saw this 'Driver Assistance System' chart in another post explaining the 'Detecting Sensors' and it states, "Never install any accessories or stickers on the front windshield or tint the front windshield". Should I forget having the windshield tinted? Does the U.S. I5 Limited have Solar Glass installed, I checked the window sticker, and it is not listed? Any advice would be appreciated.

you can get 3m film that is clear and cuts down on uv and heat its expensive but worth it about 250 for the front
I had my windows tinted a month back. I did 30% on the front sides with Llumar ceramic IR30. It blocks IR better than tint and is the darkest I could go in the front in my state, doesn’t fully match the rear privacy glass which is 15%, but it looks better IMHO.

The front, rear winsdshield, and side rear windows I chose Llumar HP Air 80 film. No tint, clear IR blocking to help with the heat here in South Florida.

Im quite happy with the results. There is an ever so slight bluish tint to the front, but barely noticeable. Haven’t noticed any change to the vehicle operation in regards to sensors. Adaptive cruise, parking sensors, blind spot detection, obstacle avoidance all work as they should. But I noticed on my sunpass statement thatall tolls since the tint are based on my license plate photo rather than my transponder decal, which is no longer on my windshield but on a laminate card I place on the dash when on toll roads.

A tint shop should be installing tint on the inside of the windshield not the outside, so the tint would not go over the camera that looks out the top of the windshield. This way it would not effect your ADAS system.
Inside windshield tint should not effect your DAS.

This looks very nice.

Sadly it's illegal here in the UK.

Maximum tint allowed for the front side windows is 30%, and that's including the factory tint.
Does the windshield tint affect the HUD?
That's a good question - I know HUD requires a special windshield.
It does not use a standard glass one. So, may effect HUD. Not sure.
Anyone have a response to "Does the windshield tint affect the HUD?
I had my front windshield tinted with Wincos 70%. It has had no effect on the HUD as far as I can tell.

No real answer because it will depend on the tint used. Some may and some may not. If you trust your window tint provider you could consult them, but I’d be cautious.
I used Air Blue 80 on my Kia Stinger, made no difference
I'm looking to get the 3M Crystalline windshield at about 70% or 80% (In California). Would this affect any sensors or HUD?
I do not know about that brand of tint, as long as it is a ceramic, or non-metallic, you should be fine.

I run llumar ctx 30 on the front two, llumar irx on the rear 3, and Air blue 80 on the windshield. Never have had any problems with radar detectors or cell phone reception with the llumar film. My tint guy is Toby at Elite Tint in Orange County. Check out his web site. Nice guy.

how much cooler is it in the car?
It is negligible. But just the tinting makes a difference with the sun beating down on my skin. I have had skin cancers before, This just helps me in preventing it.

I have 70% ceramic on my front and it doesn't effect HUD.

Sorry to go off topic, but I see you are in south Florida. Did you happen to purchase your car from Coconut Creek?
