Tesla opening all SuperChargers to Ford next year with an adapter and update to Ford EVs wild!

Ford and Tesla announced Ford will be updating their EVs and have an adapter available to purchase to use all tesla superchargers and will include the tesla port going forward on new EVs.

This might explain why there's been no progress on the CCS conversions of SuperCharger stations.

This is more towards commercial side EV from Ford to speed up adoption in this sector.

it’s focused mainly on their consumer models hence fords post Accompanying the announcements on social media.
I think the writing was on the wall. The Gov wanted to make charging more accessible and Tesla is the leader there. Tesla made the NASC adapter open for anyone to use and now we have Ford going there. I suspect other manufacturers will go that route as well.

Tesla is however installing more and more of the superchargers with conversion kits for J1772/CCS. Right now on the east coast it is in NY state and expanding from there.

That's awesome, can you link us to a report on the progress? Here in California, the largest ev market in the country by a huge margin, they've made zero progress past two and several YouTubers have reported stagnation on the east coast so this would be great news!

You can actually see on the Tesla app. But will try and find a map to show...

That's fine, if you're local I trust you, it's just been odd for us in the land of EVs to see zero progress :D

If you are old enough to remember... BetaMax vs. VHS. I had to wait in line behind a Tesla M3 today to charge my I5 at an EA350kw charger, so I only hope Tesla will open up adapters for more brands or install their magic docks to more locations. Not a great time to have a battle of standards.

Sound like a monopoly to me. Why use a Tesla Supercharger which is more expensive then EA or any other CCS charger?
Thanks for the link.
Wow, there are a total of two locations in California with CCS connectors.
But check out Europe! There are a lot.

Actually, it's not. Tesla supercharger prices are in general competitive to, or cheaper than regular EA rates. You can also pay a small monthly fee and pay regular Tesla prices which are significantly cheaper than regular EA rates. We are talking, in my area, difference between around $.26 per kwh Tesla, versus $.46 for EA.

Yes, Tesla started in Europe first. They just started in the United States and majority of their dual charging stations are in NY state. Keep in mind, Tesla is still testing this concept and basically retrofitted the existing chargers to add the new dock.

The new generation of Tesla superchargers will come with longer cables to more easily fit other EVs...

Actually, in my area, EA monthly charge is $4.00/ month for $0.36 kWh (Tesla $12.99/ month for $0.40 kWh), without monthly plans: EA $0.48 kWh (Tesla $0.50 kWh). In northeast Ohio.

So check the Tesla app, odds are those are peak hours. Tesla charges different rates throughout the day. =)

Did you already use up your free 2 years of EA?
Yes, I do have the Tesla app and I travel allot to Niagara Falls and hopefully Tesla in Fredonia, NY will open to Ioniq 5 soon.

Interesting, I read an email that was saying with membership people would pay Tesla owner rates... unless that supercharger is super expensive, that rate seems high, or definitely the peak rate. but hey, it is better than nothing!
I have check all of New York superchargers that are open to other EVs and that is the rate. As a note, I still get EA free until Feb. 2024. But the EA chargers at that city is at Walmart and is always full. The Tesla supercharger are across the street and it will give me options to use them. But I believe that is the rate for non Tesla vehicles.
Yes, Tesla started in Europe first.
Tesla started opening SuperChargers to other cars in Europe first because they use the same standards as the rest of the world outside the US - so it's more coding the network to allow plug and plan of other cars, vs retrofitting superchargers here as they went with their own option to build a walled garden and for costs (aluminum interconnects are way cheaper than copper inside the car).

It's the option of using any charger really. Current fords can plug into a CCS charger or they'll be able to buy the Tesla supercharger retrofit CCS adapter next year. For Americans not in big progressive hubs with tons of wonderful EV charging often Tesla is the only option for rapid charging.
