After 36k mile and nearly 3 years my company car was coming up for renewal, I needed to decide on a replacement for my not so loyal Ariya Evolve.
Possible replacements would be Model Y juniper, Ioniq 5, Sealion 7, Polestar 4, DS no 8, Ariya e-4orce.
Ariya whilst being very practical for me, excellent boot, nice interior, HUD, good turning circle. The Ariya proved uncomfortable in its ride and seating. 12v battery failure left me stranded and even it's replacement battery is failing (regularly down to 9v causing auto tailgate to fail) otherwise a very good car though FWD.
I've read reports of similar firm ride with the e-4orce so another Ariya is off the list.
DS No8 Nice looking car but delivery date was a long way off and no apparent special lease offers yet.
Cars Test Driven
BYD Sealion 7, top of the range comes with HUD, I had a test drive, very quiet and comfortable, but the main dashboard characters are too small for my old eyes, the car is also on the long side for parking, insurance group is high, I can take or leave its design, nice interior though.
Polestar4, wow real nice demonstrator car but I simply cannot use digital mirrors. The sheet steel tailgate instead of a window forcing a digital rearview mirror is a deal breaker, otherwise a cracking car. Polestar you made a massive mistake in the design.
Tesla Model Y Juniper, a frustrating car, as a tesla novice I was clueless on how stuff worked, I felt the ride was just as firm as the Ariya and tyre noise was more than the Ariya, no HUD, I wanted to like the Tesla but came away disappointed, my wife felt nauseous in it.
Hyundai Ioniq 5, I love the design of this car. I test drove a RWD version and it felt a little slow 0-60 compared with the Ariya despite being faster on paper. The Ioniq5 drove much nicer and the ride felt smoother, seats were more comfortable. I felt at home in the Ioniq 5, controls were intuitive. Range topping N Line S AWD (not the ‘N’) has HUD normal mirrors and glass roof. Turning circle wont be as good as the Ariya, darker roof lining, boot not as practical, range slightly down and only 11kw AC charging. I suspect it will also come with similar 12v battery / DC-DC converter issues!
Ive ended up ordering the Ioniq 5 N Line S AWD, i found a cracking lease deal online that my local show room improved on.
So the Ariya will be going , the car i loved, hated, began to appreciate more then hated again.
So looking forward to the Ioniq 5
