If it's wearing then you would see some rubber dust etc around the blocks. I haven't noticed that but I've added a wipe of grease to the rubber that should stop most of the wear and creaking between the plastic and rubber.
I don't know what the material the 'rubber' is but if it's a PU based material putting it in boiling water for a few seconds might restore its shape - if it's just deformed and not actually lost material. We have it at work with poly urethane parts that deform and boiling water restores then immediately. Might be worth a go.

My Ioniq 5 Limited AWD 2023 was just repaired today for this issue. The TSB finally hit the USA and there's a Tailgate Noise Kit which consists of washers for the stops as well as some kind of wrapping (or tape) for the struts on the tailgate. TSB# 23-BD-006H for tailgate noise repair is what the invoice states. Part #s include: 81738F01 and 81738GI000FFF - PAD 1. Been driving all day with not a hint of a rattle.

Anyone out there that can provide a PDF of TSB# 23-BD-006H?

For me, adjusting the rubber stops did not work really. What did help immediately and all creaking is gone was to apply just a tiny bit of grease to inside of the u-shaped metal piece on the locking mechanism. That is what the noise was coming from in my case, the actual lock rubbing against the metal when car 'bends'

Thanks for this TSB number. My dealership told me May 1st there was no TSB for the trunk rattle and that Hyundai had no timeframe for when to expect one....
Well, I was able to give them this number, and sure enough they found this TSB from April. They ordered the washers for me, but the concerning thing is that it also directs them to hit the "tailgate striker" with a hammer 5 times! It says to use "moderate force" with the hammer. I feel like I'm taking a big chance that the mechanic will know what is "moderate force."
I have attached the TSB.

I'm so pleased you were able to inform them.... haha. A hammer in the hand of a tech is certainly anxiety provoking. Once they swing it, the results belong to them. Hope it works out well.

Great forum thread! I've been experiancing this too. I was about to call Hyundai and thought that I would check out the forum first. I've was also impacted by Apple Car Play dropping out and can't recommend this forum enough!!

I think I have fixed mine by putting two M8 washers behind the boot lid aligner and placing T-Rex Waterproof tape behind the washers and over the rubber guides. I am hoping this wears well, it is pretty good stuff and has definitly fixed the rattle.

I'm an Australian MY 2022 RWD with about 16,000 km. In the last month, the I5 has developed a rattle in the tailgate. Sounds like it is mostly at the rear left of the tailgate.

It occurs when I drive on irregular pavement or unsealed roads. Speed bumps also make it rattle.

I adjusted the plastic screw-in stops on the bottom of the tailgate but it didn't seem to make much difference.

The Hyundai service people looked at it and think it's something loose within the tailgate, not a noise caused by a less than snug fit against the body. They want to take it apart under warranty.

Anyone else experiencing a rattle from the back?
My 2023 AWD IONIQ 5 has the same issue. It's a design issue and it is common across the model. Those with rough roads suffer most. Hyundai has a poor fix on a current TSB that involves adding washers under the contact pad on the door itself, both sides. This reduces the noise but not enough. They need to take this more seriously.
I removed the same two pads and installed a 2.5mm thick silicone piece from a old snowshoe strap, cut it to fit under bothe pads. Then I added washers between the original pad and the silicone (protecting the paint)....until the door refused to close. I then removed one thin washer, the door closed perfectly and the rattle/squeak noise all but disappeared except on moments when the car hits a bump like a deep set manhole cover.

Your dealer needs to take this back to Hyundai for a proper fix. It is astonishing how they downplay this issue.... because not fixing will mean my next car will certainly not be a Hyundai brand. How 'bout you?

I have the same problem - caused by the two pieces of plastic that interlock being just the wrong material, far too hard basically. I did the penny washer update which worked for a while until the plastic deformed again bringing back the rattle. I have now reverted to my first fix. This is a simple one of sticking a piece of the felt half of a Velcro strip on the bottom plastic. It has worked well for a number of weeks and will be easy to replace when it wears out. It would be easy for Hyundai to issue new pads in a more suitable material but they don't seem interested. Shame really as I really like the car but as many have said before, the quieter it is the more you notice the rattles.

My 2023 Ioniq 5 Limited had the same issue, which was nicely responsive to the TSB fix back in April- for about 10 weeks-at which time it became apparent that it has no intention of staying quiet. I'll be returning to the dealership in a couple of weeks, after waiting 2 months for an appointment. It's discouraging as I also had the "tire" vibration issue, but that's a different thread...haha.

Thanks for your response. If the rattles return I will try your Velcro solution.

Thanks for your reply - but if I interpret your description correctly than you refer to the latch lock (hook)? View attachment 47450 That thing is designed to make metal-metal contact with the lock mechanism on the trunk door. If you wrap this with electrical tape, after a while - there will be plastic/rubber/glue all over the locking mechanism?!? Has anybody really done this?
I just covered mine with a small piece of cloth (from an old t-shirt) because the tail gate was not closing with the electrical tape on there. It worked! Hopefully will stay that way. The silence is heaven! Thanks for these posts!

I had mine done 6 months ago but a slight rattle returned after a few months. I waited another 2 months to get an appointment (unbelievable) and they readjusted the trunk striker. Rattle gone. The only benefit of repeated visits to the dealership is that they have to report unresolved issues back to Hyundai, especially if the "fix" doesn't work. I'm thinking that's the only way these things can get corrected going forward. Hope your issue stays resolved!

I fixed my rattle by simply wrapping a layer of electrical insulating tape around the top and the legs of the tailgate locking mechanism anchor point. I surmise that the rattle arises because the locking mechanism starts to rub on the anchor point. I suppose another solution maybe to coat the anchor point in light film of copper grease.
