Does the '24 IONIQ 5 with available software updates match the range claimed for the '25, or does the '25 have updated hardware that improve range? Trying to decide on upgrading to a '25. Thanks.

Being pedantic, the battery is the same size and weight, they tweaked the battery chemistry to increase its storage capacity.
Bigger battery capacity
LOL! Yah, batteries are generally measured by capacity rather than dimensions. :D

I thought I was going to have a perfect comparison. We just did our first road trip in the 2025 and made our first charging stop at the same place as where we would do our initial charge in the '24. Unfortunately, the miles were not the same due to having to detour around yet another road-closing pileup on I-75 on our most recent trip and different efficiencies.

But it definitely felt like we have more range, as expected, in the '25 as we continued on for the rest of that four week long trip even though the vast majority of the trip was on routes that were new to us.

BTW, when they tweaked the battery to improve capacity, they also made the charging curve very different and I'm not sure that was an improvement. The peak of the curve is higher but also narrower. But I think the added range is worth it since the reduction in charging speed is very small.

The difference is going to be 15-20 miles, not really significant...........unless you run out 15 miles from a charger!
We missed a highway exit a few days ago, dropped the speed back to 60mph and got to the next one with 6%, the bigger battery would have saved a few gray hairs.

Six percent. Spot on! 😁 I aim for 10% on trips but don't mind getting as low as 5%. In reality, it's usually 25% because we can't seem to get back to the car quick enough when we stop to charge. :ROFLMAO:

There's an Out of Spec Youtube video where Kyle's dad, Dave, missed an exit. He was so low that he stopped at the next exit at a gas station that was closed for the night and had an ice machine out front. He unplugged the ice machine and charged up enough to get to the closest fast charger.
