Proximity unlock doesn't happen after opening hatch?

New 25 SEL owner with a bug/feature question. I've opened the hatch both with fob and proximity, loaded/unloaded my stuff, and closed the hatch with fob in pocket. I walk around to the driver's door and inevitably just stand their staring at recessed door handles and folded mirrors until I dig in my pocket and fumble the unwieldy egg out of my pocket and push the button. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Anyone else experience this? I guess the real question is, how can I avoid this other than getting into driver's door before doing anything else....that isn't convenient.

Is that new? My 2023 Ioniq 6 SEL doesn't work like that.

If I approach from the rear with the fob in my pocket the trunk opens (after the usual four beeps). Then I close the trunk using the close trunk (left) button in the hatch and walk around to the driver side door and the doors unlock when I approach.

I recall seeing complaints from 2022 year owners who found it annoying that the doors would unlock-lock-unlock-lock as they moved around it in the driveway/garage. The 2023 works as op described here though: Auto Unlock does not respond for a few minutes after closing the rear hatch so I have to touch the unlock square on the handle.

Welcome to the weird world of Hyundai. Mechanically, the car is great. But the human interface was likely designed by someone who doesn't drive. You'll find many more oddities. In my 2024 SEL you can set any level 1-3 on regen as the default, but not level 4. The car knows when you walk up to it, but it doesn't lock when you walk away. Part of the game is finding all the strange decisions they made. Still, it's a nice car. Enjoy!

Does anyone else eschew the big "egg" fob and use the BlueLink app to lock/unlock? Since I always have my IPhone, I don't carry the fob. My 6 locks quickly, but unlocking in the rain sometimes leaves me and my passenger(s) getting wet. The disclaimer says it may take up to 2 minutes to open; it is usually a matter of seconds, but not instantaneous.
It can be tedious if I don't reach the door within 30 seconds, because if not opened in 30, it locks again. The second unlock is usually quicker.
Only once have I been stuck, walking to a far parking lot and realizing my phone, not the car, was discharged. It took a walk back and a lucky find of the right charger, but it was a quick turnaround once I got back, opened and started it with my phone and continued to charge the phone, placing it on the charging console.
My only fear is being out of cellular range, which would be almost impossible.

I use the BlueLink app on my iPhone to lock/unlock the vehicle if I’m away from the fob and need to get into it for whatever reason.

I gave up on the proximity lock/unlock as just too annoying when I’m working and wandering around near the vehicles.

Therefore I use the fob for all purposes when I intend to move the vehicle.

And yes, I consider these new fobs a consummate UI failure. Huge, heavy, side buttons?, separate mechanical key dangling from it, how on earth did this travesty get approved to manufacture, especially given the wonderful fob that came with the 2023 Ioniq5 Limited.

Absolutely! And there's no easy way to disconnect your other keys when you need to give the fob to the valet attendant.

My 2009 Genesis had a great fob. Compact and sturdy, with the mechanical key embedded in the fob. And at the valet you just removed the mechanical key and handed the rest to the attendant. Since the keyring went through the mechanical key all your other keys just came along for the ride.
