I am actually amazed and impressed by how many changes they made that are not specifically necessary for the 'N' model. e.g. USB-C, rear wiper, rear heated seats, changing the center console/wireless phone charging, black instrument surround to name a few. I am assuming that these are likely going to be rolled out across the non-'N' models at some point and perhaps they just weren't ready for the 2024 non-N models.

While the exterior design won't be for everyone, I overall like it, and like that the wheel arches are body colored. Not sure I like some of the rear, but I can live with it. The performance related improvements, whether battery/sound/fake gears etc are pretty amazing, and the fact that they make the ICE type features able to be switched off is good.

When you compare the EV6 GT vs EV6 GT-Line there are very few differences, whereas the Ioniq 5 N is so different from the Ioniq 5 Limited.

I've already reached out to get on the dealer lists to get one. One of the You Tube videos made reference to Sept 2023 release in S Korea, later in 2023 for Europe and then other markets for 2024. So I assume USA will be somewhere in the first half of 2024 which is longer than I would like.

I am OK with the fake noises. We are at a point where people are trying to figure out a way to make driving an electric car as engaging as driving a small 6-speed manual go-kart with pops like the other N cars. There will always be the enthusiast market. The problem they have with EV's is the real capability of aftermarket changes and the ability to make things truly custom. Remember, there are people pay millions to drive Ferrari's from the 60's that my Veloster N could outperform. Why? Because they have a racing legacy and are STILL a beautiful driving experience. It is why the Miata is always popular. It is fun to drive. --- I am just glad they are trying.

Nah. It needs to be RED. Red is a sexy and powerful color and is the best color of any color. Never understood why Hyundai chose such crappy colors for the Ioniqs.
Agree. Red is the fastest color. I wonder if it because the orange piping is on all cars....and red/orange clashes.

Hyundai seems allergic to bold colors. If these were the color choices for an Elantra I'd think Hyundai was being overly conservative....

Hyundai:
• N Performance Blue Matte
• N Performance Blue
• Abyss Black Pearl
• Cyber Gray Metallic
• Ecotronic Gray Matte
• Ecotronic Gray
• Atlas White
• Atlas White Matte
• Gravity Gold Matte
• Soultronic Orange Pearl

Tesla:
  • Midnight Silver Metallic
  • Pearl White Multi-Coat
  • Deep Blue Metallic
  • Solid Black
  • Red Multi-Coat
  • No Matte choices, too expensive
  • Only one 'silver' gray is too expensive
Ford:
  • Shadow Black
  • Grabber Blue Metallic
  • Vapor Blue Metallic
  • Carbonized Gray Metallic
  • Space White Metallic
  • Rapid Red Metallic
  • Star White Metallic
  • No Matte choices, too expensive
  • 2 Gray!
Looks like Hyundai is doing better than OEMs and the magic T, love it!

I’m 100% getting that crazy Soultronic Orange. I had a Cyber Orange Mach-E and that color was awesome. I’m not colorblind and will never get a grey/white/black/soulless car.

This car will be an interesting test of whether there is a non-ICE market for gears/noises, or whether those are mutually exclusive. The sales numbers for this will give a clue (and yes I am aware you can turn that off and many will buy this car and turn it off). I think there probably is enough of a niche for this car to do well, but not enough for lots of EVs like this to do well. I think Hyundai has probably jumped into this niche of sporty EVs with this type of optional feature before some others and is, alongside Tesla, staying ahead of the game again. I could imagine other car companies trying to follow a little too late and flopping with a similar car a couple of years later since Hyundai will already win some of the limited demand for this type of car.

I kind of get the impression that this back window wiper will be a deal breaker for some. There is someone out there who is going to trade up from their regular Ioniq 5 to a $20k or $30k more expensive car not purely because of the back wiper but who factors that 10%+ into their decision such that they wouldn´t have upgraded otherwise. Don´t let that be you because they have really played you if you end up buying a $70k car in order to get a back wiper! There´s also the chance it will be on the regular 2024 Ioniq 5 next year given the feedback they´ve likely had on this so far.

I´m guessing about the price by the way, I don´t follow sporty cars or any cars in this price range so maybe I´m way off and it will be well under $60k or over $90k.

I would be fairly certain that some of the improvements/changes will filter down to the non-N models for the next model year. e.g. black surround of displays for a black interior, rear wiper, usb-c, the updated radio/AC controls etc. I work in manufacturing and it doesn't make sense to invest in changing those just for the 'N' model - it is not as if they align to the 3 'N' pillars. I think the 'N' model is going to be a bit too niche for a number of existing Ioniq 5 owners who are not looking for the 'hot hatch look', 'PS5 style steering wheel', 'super huge wheels', 'reduced range' etc. I could see maybe 5% of existing Ioniq 5 owners going for the 'N', but the majority not.

I could do without the imitation engine noises and the simulated transmission shifts, I'm sure many may like it, I hope they can be turned off if I would buy it. I like the EV quiet and smooth performance experience, that's what appeals to me the most vs an ICE vehicle. I like the IoniQ 6, I'm hoping to see a more powerful version in the future, but I don't need the extra racer boy flashy bs. I love everything about the wife's GV60 Advanced, but if it was for my daily drive it would have been the Performance version with the extra oomph. In all, I'd prefer a sedan. So please Hyundai, lets have the bigger battery and more powerful motors in the I6.

This is going to be a track focused car that can be used as a daily driver, but for those who are after range or comfort than the normal Ioniq 5 is the way to go. All of the videos I have seen have been clear that the fake sound and gear shifts can be turned off. I can see how for some people it would make track days a little easier to judge speed etc. I expect we will see the same updates to the Ioniq 6 in 2024/2025.

1000000% percent. When I would track my daily before moving to weekend cars, a buddy brought his golf TDI manual and really had to focus to hear when he was running out of rev range due to how quiet it was.

I don't care for toyota attempting to simulate manuals in EVs, because their evs are trash and they can't even get that right.

I don't care for chrysler introducing fake hemi noises in their concepts.

But when you take the time to listen to the man responsible for BMW being good during their peak (E46, E39) explain WHY he decided to include the faux gears and engine noise expressly to communicate to the driver what's going on while on the track and to introduce huge amounts of control through stepped engine braking, as someone with decades of track time, this makes a TON of sense and is a perspective I've never heard from ANY auto maker.

But it makes sense. Hyundai literally has the best team of any automaker right now and this thing is going to dominate.

I cannot wait to see what the N74 is like if this is the daily useful modern Golf-R type equivalent of the IONIQ 5 N.

TFL's walk-around that includes Biermann's comments:

imho they uglied up a really great looking car.
Could have been worse. Most of those scoops and vents are functional - so I don't have much problem with that. The rear bump vent must be nonfunctional though...that is a miss.

I would love to see some of the aero stuff get incorporated into the Ioniq 5 Mk2. The highway efficiency isn't great and I would think an air curtain and a lengthening of the rear bumper would give a noticeable effect. That and perhaps trying to find some way to keep the front motorized vents closed more. While it is fun to have them open/close I feel that car must be usually keeping them open as the climate is rarely 70F. Someone on the Ioniq 6 forum reported something like a 4 -> 3.5 mi/kWh drop when the vents were open.

Come on RN22E 😁, The HI5N is hopefully a home run but importantly let's hope it translates to sales.
I don't think they really care to be honest. They're doing fine. Numbers up, sales up, building healthy inventories. They're the furthest ahead of anyone with a complete lineup (name another brand with as compelling manual, hev, phev and ev products). I think the N stuff is just to show what they can really do, and when you have someone like Biermann, his excitement in taking his industry besting expertise to his first EV platform.

RN22E is definitely a go, that'll be fun, the IONIQ 6 N. I expect the IONIQ 5 N reviews to be the most glowing of any performance EV we've seen, IONIQ 6 N to continue the trend, and Genesis X Speedium and N74 to really cement hyundai's lead in building the most capable and diverse EV lineup out there.

Yeah but it has to be profitable, I will say though it seems like the HI5N was marketed much better so far.

I'm guessing the HI6N Will be more about top speed based on aero properties Which will be cool, the HI5N is cool but the reality is I won't be able to take it the track at all so it's a hard pass for me It's hard enough finding groups to let you take EV on the track, but the SUV/crossover is already a no no because there is never enough of them to have there own run group, and every organization won't allow sports cars and SUV's/crossovers on track at the same time because of visibility issues.

I'm not sure it does, the first gen prius wasn't, the first gen A8 wasn't, the R32's weren't. That's my point. When you're hyundai, and you're firing on all cylinders and doing great you can do fun stuff, even if it doesn't make a ton of money.

Racing sounds way different where you are I guess, I've had no issues with it at open track days in California (Lagauna Seca, Button Willow, Willow Springs, California Speedway, Infineon/Sonoma blah blah).
