I own a 2022 Ioniq 5 Limited. A friend just picked up a 2025 Ioniq 5 SEL and I must say that I'm very impressed with all the small changes Hyundai made to the 2025 model. I don't think I've ever seen so many small useful improvements on any car's mid-cycle refresh.

To that end, I tried creating a list of improvements I've noticed or read about. This list is of improvements from my 2022 Ioniq 5 to the 2025 model. Some of the changes are only on some trim levels -- I've tried to make that distinction where I found it.
  • Larger Battery, better range (84kWh instead of 77.4kWh)
  • NACS charging port - ability to use Tesla Superchargers without adapter
  • Rear Wiper/washer
  • Improved CNCC-based user interface for infotainment
  • Battery pre-heating can be started manually
  • Wireless Android Auto/Apple Carplay
  • USB-C ports instead of USB-A
  • Turn-by-turn directions from Apple Navigation/Google Maps now show up in Heads Up Display (Limited)
  • Physical buttons for seat warmers/seat cooling and steering wheel heater
  • Improved location for the wireless phone charger, now with status LEDs
  • Useful slot to hold your phone between cup holders
  • XRT trim available
  • Improved Digital Key 2 using ultra wideband and Bluetooth LE now with iPhone support (SEL and above). Car unlocks with phone on approach instead of holding phone up to door handle.
  • Improved suspension (less wallow/float on high speed bumps)
  • Roof Rails for roof racks
  • Hybrid digital rearview mirror on Limited (was on 2024 too)
  • LED light inside charging port to aid in inserting charger at night
  • No separate low conductivity coolant requiring expensive flush
  • Improved Bose stereo - (only heard this from one source so not sure)
  • "Driver Only" and "Sync" physical buttons for climate control
  • Physical button on dashboard to open charging port
  • Improved "driver attention" system for HDA doesn't require steering input
  • Heated seats for rear passengers (SEL and above)
  • Improved trim shape around doors so seatbelts don't incessantly rattle when twisted
  • Haptic warning system in steering wheel
  • No longer constantly beeps when leaving/entering i-Pedal mode
  • Full OTA (over the air) updates for all software - no need to go to dealer for software updates
  • New Forward and Side collision avoidance (XRT, Limited)
  • Remote start can heat and ventilate the seats
  • Battery preconditioning can be initiated from Bluelink app
  • Steering wheel heater has more than one heat setting

One of the things that I would argue belongs on the "negatives for 2025+" is the ridiculous new key situation. Yes, it looks kinda cool, but it is MASSIVE and the fact that it doesn't store the emergency key blade in it is an absolute joke. Anybody know if it's possible to go back to the old key, or are they completely different RF designs inside?

Totally agree! Unlikely to be able to go back. Worse, both the 2025 Ioniq5 and 2026 Ioniq6 have these outsized cumbersome fobs with the external keys hanging about. I can't imagine a worse design, especially when the 2023 Ioniq5 fob was quite excellent and included an internal key. Why? Just why?

And worst of all, it is LESS functional than the smaller previous fobs. For example, there is no button to open the charging door as there was on the previous fob.

I think that is the whole point of the separate emergency blade. The hint is in the "emergency". You should not be keeping the key fob and the emergency blade together.

The only times I have used the physical key in any car with a key fob is when the the key fob battery is dead.

The only other time I would think I might need the physical key is if the vehicle 12V is dead.

In both cases I would rather have it inside the key fob (which I will be carrying)

What sort of emergency do you think it could be for?

If I lose one key fob - the second key fob (hopefully with a physical key inside) will still work.

If your 12V dies and you're not at home (or wherever you've left the key blade), you're basically screwed if you don't have it. The blade needs to stay with the fob so you can get into the car, so you can pop the hood/frunk, so you can get a jumpbox or jumper cables onto the 12V so you can get the car into neutral & parking brake off to have it towed...

The blade belongs with the fob. Having it be a separate little thing dangling off the key is absolutely idiotic design. Some marketing wonk won in the argument with the engineers here (as is clearly evidenced by the key being the "cute" Hyundai logo).
 
OK, so today on one of our two fobs for the Ioniq5 I somehow lost the blue plastic cover over the dangling key. Great. So now I wrap it in tape to keep the naked key from scratching anything it touches and to protect the key so it might work if I actually need it. And that assumes I can get the tape wrapping off. What a load of :poop:.
 
I know it is a strange concept these days - but I still have (a very small) one

Slimfold Nano Soft Shell (profile slightly bigger than a credit card) and fits easily into any pocket.

The physical key isn't going in that.

I have ours attached to the same "faux?" leather strap that the key fobs came with. A pain compared to every other key fob we ever owned before this.......
 
Why carry the Fob? Use digital key 2 with iphone or android and you don't need the fob. Only time I ever drove my 2025 with the fob was home from the dealer. Otherwise they've both been in the drawer at home.
If you have a Limited, the only way to use "smaht-pahk" is with the fob. Additionally, see earlier comments about why the physical key blade should always be with whoever is driving the car, in case of 12V failure...

I believe Digital Key 2 doesn't exist on the lowest trim, either (think it's only SEL and Limited?) Plus, DigitalKey2 requires a new enough phone, which not everyone has...
