Hi All,

Sorry was wondering if someone would be able to advise. Last week whilst driving to work an error flashed up saying that Lane Assist failed or something similar. Since then the icon for Lane assist has been missing from the dash. When going to the Lane assist page it says System off and there appears to be no way to switch it on, I have tried using all 3 options i.e. Lane Departure, Standard LKA and Active LKA but none them are working.

The camera behind the rear view mirror is clean but unsure what else to check, is there anything I can do to bring this option back on or does the car need a visit to the car spa to rectify this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I've never seen that issue. I'd take it to the spa and have them check it out. It could just be a loose connection somewhere or something.

yep,

happens when the area in front of the camera (behind the mirror) gets dirty or I find in light rain / heavy spray it can't see the lane markings

push the button down by the battery reset / fuel flap release and it will come back to life, happens to me every couple of months

system working as designed,

I have never had anything like that happen even driving through the winter. Is it a LKAS vs LDW thing? If mine can't see the lanes for whatever reason, it just turns the icon white until it can see the lanes again. I've never had the icon disappear other than when I've deliberately turned off the system with the button.

When it fails hard, it's not just disabled/cancelled, but turned off. This can be surprising, especially if one is used to having to on/enabled all the time, even if not active all the time.

So, from time to time, I find it off, even when I can't remember turning it off, and I'm quite sure I never do. Probably a blocking and a warning I missed.

So far, I've never lost the icon. But good to know how to fix it should it happen.

All 2018s in North America have LKAS, but none of the 2017s. Seems odd that they've never updated enabling software on the 2017s. Unless they cheaped out on the motor controlling the steering in NA models. Which is also an odd decision.

I always assumed there was additional hardware too. I guess it makes sense that they'd just use the same motor that the power steering uses to assist.

there is a whole section in the drivers manual about when it is just off because it does not detect the correct conditions or when it is actually warning that it is broken and you need to visit the dealer.
It tries to detect whether camera and controller is working, if not it send you to dealer. If they are working it might not detect lines and then warns it is just off for now.
Same for cruise control, it tries to detect controller and radar in bumper is working, if not you get warning to visit dealer. If does work it tries to detect if it can safely keep a distance. If it detects interference it warns you to no use it temporarily. But check the manual to see which image means which situation.

LKA warning came up today? When parking into garage. Also was driving it hard w LKA off all the sudden the wheels started shaking side to side. at 70 mph. Now I don’t trust this car. Also experience phantom braking once
