Love to hear from drivers who are interested in taking their 5N to the track for HPDE (High Performance Driving Event). I have a racing background, racing Praga R1T prototype race cars on circuit tracks over the past 8 years. I am also a MSF2 certified driving instructor for HPDE events. I purchased a 5N in part, so I could drive to the race track, participate in the event without the ordeal of driving my truck, trailer and race cars to the track for the weekend. The Praga race cars are track only, I cannot drive them to the track, I have to haul them in a trailer. So far I have driven the 5N, multiple days at Homestead Speedway and Sebring Raceway, both in Florida. If I want to visit other tracks out of state, I'm gonna have to find a trailer than can safely carry a 5,000 pound car together with the 1,600 pound race cars. Five thousand pounds is pretty heavy for your average track car or to put on a small trailer.
I've done a few upgrades to my 5N to make it more track worthy. I mounted 294/40/20 Pirelli's on aftermarket 20" wheels and have mostly stored the stock wheels and tires in the warehouse. The 20" wheels are much cheaper than the OEM Pirellis. I've also lowered the car 30mm with Neotech springs and changed the brake pads to Korean sourced track/racing pads and Castrol SRF Racing brake fluid. I also added the following additional items: Front/Rear stabilizer bar set, Solid Strut Bar, Front/Rear subframe brace set, Adj. HD Sway Bar Link Set and I have a Mando ECS-10 Suspension Control Module which I haven't yet installed. I'm considering to make a modest negative camber adjustment on the wheels as well. Considering to add performance brake calipers with aftermarket rotors and hats in order to be able to fit 18" wheels with slick race tires. 18" wheels will not fit on the front unless you downsize the OEM rotor to no larger than 380mm. An aftermarket caliper is needed, since the stock caliper won't with with a smaller rotor. This list modification is a bit pricey and I haven't pulled the trigger on this yet.
Hope to hear from other owners who are taking their cars to the track or looking to do so. By the way, I have several sets of the track/race brake pads available, front and rear if anyone is interested in purchasing a set. $460 for the full F/R set, shipping included here to addresses in the U.S.
I look forward to hearing from other drivers on these topics.
