I hope to own an Ioniq 5 in the next few months. But I want to make sure I can attach my Rocky Mounts bike rack on the car. It uses a 2” receiver to mount to the back. Does anyone know if there is a receiver type hitch for this car?

Somebody posted this to the same question on the Facebook group the other day. I asked him multiple times for information and he didn't respond 😩

I need to tow a small trailer when I get mine so I asked the dealer and he said that his parts guy was able to find a part number but no other information. I'm going to ask him again soon if they've gotten updates.

I too have a bike rack that uses a 2" receiver.

I emailed Miles Johnson Senior Manager, Quality, Service and Technology Public Relations at Hyundai USA regarding the size of the hitch that Hyundai will sell. "Port Installed Options -Tow Hitch TH $450" (see attached) He told me it is 1 1/4 inches.

Hopefully we will find out who makes the hitch seen in the Facebook post. I would imagine aftermarket makers such as Curt will make one at some point.

I'll probably just wait for aftermarket then because I don't want to have to adapt to 2" and induce a bunch of play on the whole system.

i have an Ioniq 5 Ultimate on order and it is in port. i, too, need a 2" receiver hitch and can't find anything. i am contemplating building a proto-type similar to the original unit that came on my 06 Dodge Magnum. this unit mounted on the frame rails but had the receiver completely hidden and pointing down. from there an L shaped receiver presented a 2" receiver in the traditional setup. the issue with the Ionic might be ground clearance for this type on unit. it might be hard to visualize but it worked and i towed a 24' sailboat and a 17' travel trailer.

I’m interested in purchasing an Ioniq 5, but installing a 2 inch receiver for my bike rack is a requirement. I need to carry two e-bikes at 40+ pounds each, plus my rack weighs 50 pounds, so a 1.5” receiver is not robust enough to handle this weight even with a 2 inch adapter.

I am astonished that the Hyundai has not provided a clear path to installing a 2 inch receiver, given how many people are using these types of bicycle racks. Honestly, if I cannot come up with a straight solution to this, I will simply purchase an ID.4. Is the manufacturer really saying ‘too bad’ to anybody who wants to use a 2” hitch-mounted bike rack?

Ok so someone asked about the part number for the tow bar with 2 inch hitch that I have. Turns out Hyundai NZ outsourced this to a local tow bar specialist who does hitches locally for all their vehicles. So I can confirm that it is possible to be done and can be done by a local supplier where you live. I have no other details about how it’s done sorry.

I don't know about other countries, but a roof rack isn't even an option is it, in the sense that the design of the roof doesn't allow for a 'native' roof rack, right ? That is, it doesn't have the gutter or track or whatever it is called where a roof rack would be installed, does it ? (The yakima type systems that clip in to the door is not an option I want - I had one of those systems stolen years ago)

I contacted Torklift Central, located in Kent, WA. They've made 2" receives for multiple small cars in the past. Got the following response:

"Thank you for reaching out to us. At the moment we don't have any immediate plans for releasing an Ioniq 5 hitch, but considering our history with hitches for EVs, I'd be surprised if we didn't make one. If you'd like, I can add your information to our product development sheet. This lets our team know there is interest in a product for a particular vehicle. Please let me know if you have any questions or anything I can help with."

They were ok with me sharing this info (no affiliation), contact them if you're interested: support@torkliftcentral.com

I reached out to Hyundai customer care directly and got the following response:

Hyundai Customer Care Center is unable to provide information regarding parts availability as we do not have information regarding parts delivery or shipments. We recommend that you continue to work with your local Hyundai dealership, as they are the only ones that can get the parts you are requesting. We apologize for any frustration or inconvenience this may have caused.

I reached out to Stealth and they told me that the Ionic 5 is on their development list, but they cannot locate a car to work on the design. The person I spoke to said that if I know of anyone in the Atlanta area that is willing to lend them their car, they could complete the design. Not sure how long they would need your car, and I'm willing to guess that you could work out a discount on a hitch if you let them borrow your car. The address for their R&D center is 4580 COMMERCE PKWY, SUGAR HILL, GA 30518
