Ioniq 5 charging cable locked

So we decided to do a 'test' charge before our first longish trip and I'm glad we did. There's an Ionity 350kW charging station just down the road from us so popped down there tonight. Only other car there? Another Ioniq 5!

Firstly, we hadn't registered our 'Charge myHyundai' card so that wouldn't work. Even using the App/scan failed until we'd registered the card, then the scan worked fine. (BTW: thanks to the i5 owner who helped by testing his card which worked first time for our car. His dealer had also taken the time to set all this up for him  )
So, all done, 65% to 80% in no time at all. Tried the app 'Stop Charging' (which may have been our first mistake) but that didn't work so I pressed 'Stop' on the charge station. Then went to pull the cable out and it was locked.

Next followed lots of frantic reading on this forum and locking/unlocking, turning the car on/off with various intervals in between, none of which worked. Rang Hyundai Assist (which is The AA). No help/knowledge, just booked us in for a visit.
So, I went back to the manual. The only thing in there under 'cable locking' was a way to change the options:
Option 1: Lock the cable whilst charging. Unlock cable when stopped
Option 2: Lock the cable with the doors. Unlock cable when doors are unlocked
Option 3: Never lock the cable.
Well, Option 3 doesn't actually exist. However, once I'd moved it from Option 1 to Option 2 then locking and unlocking the car did the trick :)
So somehow the car had got stuck in 'I'm charging' state with no way out.

I have that setting for the cable as well, sometimes I have to press the unlock button on the key twice to release the cable.

I do not like the app, I think it is buggy, not very well laid out and not very responsive. I have a lot of failed notifications for trying to stop climate control, stop charging, vehicle status etc - I preferred the previous app - Hyundai need to pull their finger out and update/upgrade the app and the bugs in the cars software.

Although Saying this - I love the car (software not so much) :)
Found this in the boot (behind the charge port) this morning too. From the symbols on it I imagine it is in the manual somewhere.

I hate the fact is always shows range in km until I update the status and then it's in miles. Just sloppy coding/testing!
I agree. Love the car, hate the software.

Emergency release isn’t it?
Yeah, for sure. Just wish I'd thought-of/noticed it last night :)

Only charged at home so far. Turned off charger at mains when car unlocked, charger remained locked in place. Lock / unlock using key fob released the charger.
I find that when charging at home I have to set the cable locking to locking when doors locked. This is because our oldish Podpoint charger connector does not seem to be 'grabbed' by the car and has some play. So I hold the cable in position slightly raised and lock the car, at which point the car grabs and locks it.
As you’ve discovered there’s a manual release for the charging cable which reminds me that I need to tell my wife about that 😂

The car should unlock the charger when it hits the desired % charge and automatically stops. You can hear it unlock. The only time I’ve ever had the cable stay locked is when I experienced the no drive software problem.
You must always unlock the car with the smart key to be sure that you can unlock the charge cable or even open the charger door.
You can setup when the cable must be locked : (Setup->Vehicle->ECO Vehicle->Charging Connector Locking Mode)
  • Always
  • While charging
  • Do not Lock
