I can’t seem to find this addresed in the forums. When I am using car play and select music I get a message to connect to wi-fi. How can I do that? Any help would be appreciated!!

Hmmm. I have never seen that.
I set up Bluetooth between my iPhone and the car before I plugged in a USB cable and first tried CarPlay.
It was my impression that music was playing through CarPlay if the phone was plugged in. It does not, at least for me, seamlessly switch between Bluetooth audio and CarPlay. So if I unplug the phone but still want music from the phone I need to use the audio settings to select Bluetooth to get things going again.

Normally once connected to CarPlay, you would just select the Apple Music app. You shouldn't need to connect to Bluetooth or anything like that. Apple Music will stream over LTE and 5G cell connections. If not, you may need to manually select the media source as USB and select the music you want to play on your phone.
This is an apple music setting on your iPhone, has nothing to do with carplay. See

Try removing the Bluetooth connection first. Next plug in your iPhone and start CarPlay (not sure how this starts as I use Android Auto). Now just play music on Apple Music.
I actually use Apple Music on my Android and it works great. You shouldn't be having this issue.

The music app may not be allowed to operate over cellular. You can check this by going to Settings > Cellular. Scroll down until you see Music and ensure the switch is turned on (green).
