Electrify America 30 minute sessions

I had seen someone post that the thirty minute free sessions for two years on USA Ioniq 5’s was limited to once per day, but wanted to check the fine print for myself. From EA’s website, ooks like it’s a 60 minute lock out, not once per day. Great if you are going on a road trip and need to stop over at different chargers or need to charge before and after work before a long trip or something.

Im assuming this was just a charger error, but I did move one spot over one time and it just started the charge for free on the second charger, no identification of me in any way and it even asked for a phone number in case I wanted a receipt, but said the charging was complimentary. Again, guessing that was a charger error, but might be worth trying as long as no one else needs the chargers.

I'm wondering if it is solely tied to your account or if it somehow is detecting the vehicle as well. Basically, if you have the free charging enabled on your account and you charge with another EV, will it apply the free 30 minute session or will it recognize that you're not charging your Ioniq 5 and proceed with normal billing?

Say you use this for a couple of times a week every week for 2 years.

How much will the battery degrade by, by constant use of the fast chargers?

Will the money you are saving with free charging cost you more in the long run with regards to the health of the battery long term?

Nope, the plan hasn't changed for the Ioniq 5, it just seems a lot of people didn't look at the fine print. The ID.4 plan from VW and Ioniq 5 plan from Hyundai are not in any way related other than they both have separate contracts with Electrify America.

I'm new to the group and can't wait to read all the great information as I start the possible buying process for a new Ioniq 5. As part of that I went to a local dealer here in North Georgia (Kennesaw) today and saw one in person for the first time. LOVE it. The salesperson did tell me something that I hadn't heard and really haven't been able to find anywhere. She said there is something in the small print for the EA charging plan that limits the free charging to 1000 kWh. Has anyone heard about this?

The EA 30-minute deal seems like a scam! I tried 3 different stations...two of them 350 kW and one 150 kw. None of them were able to charge at a rate higher than 50 kw/hr. So, didn't make much progress in the 30 minute sessions... delaying a cross country road trip! After reporting all three stations to EA, I concluded that the actual rate of charge you will get at any given charger is somewhat of a gamble. I am calling this "deal" a scam because it does NOT meet the advertised rate of charge ...and the labels on the chargers are misleading at best. The EA app should let people know the actual charging rates.

I don't think it's a battery temp issue because I have been driving cross country and the charging station has been in the Nav system. The battery should have been ready to accept full charging speed. I reported three stations!! Will see how rest of the journey unfolds.

The car does not preheat the battery while navigating to a charger…not yet anyway. The battery may have been warm from driving, maybe not, depends on the conditions you were driving in.

Curious to know what kind of efficiencies (m/kWh) you are seeing? All interstate travel?
