Yippee - just got an email from Hyundai. My Ioniq 5 is being built in November 2021 and I am #161. Preferred AWD long range. Just called the dealer to see if there is any way to change to the ultimate.

Omg that's awesome. Which colour did you go with? My wife's friend has shooting star and I wanted that but got white instead as that was avaliable, still like the white a lot
I went with black, strange that when I ordered they called it "Phantom Black", but this year they changed it to "Abyss Black".

Y'know what, maybe it's the phantom black paint that's been my downfall, now that they've switched pantone numbers maybe they can finally start cranking these babies out again...

Maybe?!
my journey started in 1970 when my soon to be wife and I attended the first earth day conference where concerned people where trying to come up with Ideas to help save the planet from global warming. The ideas were pretty simple but no one even could have imagined the things we have today. Myself I only paid $79 in carbon tax last year as I have 2 phev's geothermal heating and now I will have the best ev in the world. I can only imagine what you young fellas will come up with in your life time good luck and enjoy the ride in you Ioniq 5's

Super curious, do you call the dealership/sales guy or do they update you that the eta has changed?
both we have a great relation ship as I started to purchase Hyundais since 2005, and I was the first to buy a hybrid from them in 2011. My sales person loves Ioniq 5's as he owns one. It was difficult to wait this almost year and a half but now that we know it is coming it is more difficult to wait!

I have been doing some research and it seems that the annacis auto terminal port is always experiencing some delays between March and July. It is more special in 2023 since all dealers want to replenish their low inventory due to COVID situation so there is more vehicle coming in this timeline so explains the delay.

Link I have read to discover that : Accurate forecasts for the spring push at Vancouver

Ah thats a great read, thanks for this. I used to drive by it once a while and didn't imagine that I'd be waiting for my car to get cleared out of there one day heh. Gotta practice being patience

Yes - it is more difficult to wait knowing that a vehicle is coming. I was recently offered the switch from Ultimate trim to the Luxury trim. I called to see if there were any updates. My dealer explained that a dealership allocated car is different than one in the order cue. With a regular ICE or Ioniq 5 that was in the order cue we/the dealership get production updates. An allocated car, however, will just show up in inventory and then arrive at the dealership about two months later. I also asked about the backlog in Vancouver and he said that Hyundai overshipped vehicles that are not in demand at the dealerships so it is taking longer than usual to clear out as many dealerships are not taking them.

What was the difference in time between a luxury and ultimate trim?

For me it was going to be a few years wait for the ultimate.

Scroll around to find out. It’s been discussed that luxury only omits the glass roof. All else is the same.

It’s a little more complicated than that; here’s a small summary. Dock workers are unionized and short staffed so they’ll work their hours and go home. There’s only so many spots available in Vancouver to hold all the cars coming in by boat from all manufacturers, not just Hyundai. Holidays compound this problem because the ships keep sailing in but there’s no one to offload. Regardless, there’s a backlog of ships at anchor, sometimes waiting days for their berth to open up. If you look at the holding lot at dock, it’s at the point of saturation.

then there’s customs having to sort through all these cars and do paperwork. Then finally there’s the problem of having these cars moved to trains or onto trucks - unionized workers only!

its also a small sign of the times as well… you have this backlog because not too many people have the appetite now to buy a new car.

I think you've mis read my question. It's the difference in time eg. How much faster will you get the luxury vs the ultimate not the difference between the trims

My dealer will take anything they can get I believe, yesterday they had 3 cars they could sell and 24 coming in And by the time they get here most will be already sold. When I saw a bunch of N version Elantras come in a few months ago I th0ught they would never sell but they are all gone. People are getting desperate some cannot wait as their cars are nearing the end and they must buy something.

Oh my apologies! From what I can tell and have experienced, dealerships are given allocations of the luxury that they can customize to your liking. However, the allocations are far and few between… mine was only given two in the first go. I turned it down as $900 seems like a very small amount for a glass roof..

Thanks for the reply!! Appreciate it. Yeah $900 for sun roof is meh. But to my instead of waiting 2 to 3 years to the potential of getting the car any moment now was a huge deal to me.

The way I read and notice. It seems like the luxury was just built and shipped and then allocated to dealers, by the time my sales guy found out, it was already on the way.

I really wish the Canadian situation was more like the states from 6 months ago of 5k to 20k markup to today 6 months later, below msrp with lots on their lot
Wishful thinking, as we are a much smaller market. It's such a great discussion point.

Have a great day
