Hi all

I used the Auto Hold function at a red light today, when I pressed the gas pedal on the green light nothing happened, the car didn't move. I tried going to sport mode, neutral and back, hitting the Auto Hold button... nothing . I put the car in Park and then back to D and the car moved. The fellow in the pickup truck behind me wasn't amused, nor was I. There were no warnings or error indications on the displays as far as I can recall, just an ineffectual accelerator.

The car is only 3 weeks old, with 1300km on it.

Just thought I'd share. If it happens again I will discus it with the dealership, although I doubt it will accomplish anything.

Cheers and keep in touch :)

(ps, since this is my first post and I don't know what info will show up: 2021 Ioniq PHEV Ultimate (blinding) White)

I have a 2021 that I bought new. I have the same issue. They fixed it 3 times before the warranty expired. They "said" it was the rear brake callipers. They saw my uber/lyft sign in the window and "said" it was a common problem with cars used for rideshare drivers. They said that since the lights were amber, it simply meant that the epb and autohold were disabled but it was safe to drive. The warranty expired and lights are still on. Some days, they come on and chime with a message that flashes too fast to read, some days they just come on and some days they don't come on at all. I've put 87,000 miles on my 2021 ionic and I'm looking for something new. It won't be a Hyundai. If it's a common issue, why hasn't their been a recall.

well good news - there was a recent hyunda tsb (technical service bulletin?) 23-BR-001H , which i found a bit obfuscated to try to research, but seems to be about the brake caliper wiring harness, and after receiving this service we have had no more of these glitches. smart cruise control working well again. huge relief. that was a trying 9 months :(

Bought a Brand New 2022 Ioniq Hybrid Limited in April of 2022. About 4-5 months after my purchase, the Auto Hold and EPB light sporadically come on together on my dash. no indication of the breaks locking or dragging. Sometimes it is accompanied by a dinging. I have to wait until I am stopped. Turn the car off, then back on again, and both lights go away. Sometimes it happened multiple times in 1 day, then it wouldn't happen for 3 weeks to a month. I Had Hyundai attempt to reproduce the error or definitively diagnose the problem. They were unable to do so, but they told me they had been seeing this issue with this brand new vehicle, and their warranty repair suggested replacing the rear brake calipers and wiring harness. Things have been fine, after the repairs, that is until last Thursday ( March 16, 2023 ). Almost the same amount of time has passed as when the trouble lights 1st appeared. This is very concerning. This car is the most expensive purchase I have made to date. My 2015 Hyundai Accent, which I bought brand new, was reliable for 252K miles + before the engine got tired. I would expect at the bare minimum, that a new, state of the art hybrid, double the price of my Accent, would be reliable. Now I have to contend with more warranty repairs, more down time. I hope there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Hyundai has been a dependable brand for me, that is up till now.

We have had pretty much exactly the same experience and timeline with our 2021 Ioniq Hybrid Elite, which we brought brand new here in NZ. It has not long come back from the Dealers after having the rear brake caliper replaced and lights have started coming on again with increasing frequency, sigh. At least the dinging has started again yet, but I suspect it is only a matter of time.

I have been scouring Google trying to find any useful leads or any official information from Hyundai but all I am finding is lots of people with issues and not much help from Hyundai. I find it difficult to believe that they don't know this is an issue given the number of posts I have seen about it.

Am feeling discouraged but have joined this forum in the hope that someone gets to the bottom of it.

Thank you for posting this document! I have had this issue with my 2022 Ioniq for a few years, finally got around to taking it to the dealer last month. I printed the TSB linked here after finding this forum, pulled it into the dealer with the warning lights on and DID NOT TURN IT OFF so that it wouldn't reset when they started it up again. I handed them the service bulletin and said, please run the diagnostics before the car turns off, I am certain this service bulletin is the issue.

They ran the diagnostics and sure enough, the problem was described and resolved by the service bulletin and replacing the parts detailed in it. I've been driving it for two weeks now with no further beeping or warning. It was completely covered under warranty.

Also for context, I am a small woman often judged to be a lot younger than my age. Just noting that here because I know it can feel intimidating to do car stuff as a woman who doesn't know a lot about cars! Coming into the dealership with the printed bulletin and background info I got from this forum really helped my confidence and I felt I was taken seriously.

Anyway, THANK YOU to this forum for the information and IONIQ camaraderie.

Interesting, thanks for finding that. Am surprised it is just a software update. In my case I had a bad left rear brake caliper too, which was replaced, but the error codes kept coming. They replaced the wiring harness because they tested it with a multimeter and found a short in one of the wires. Maybe this is a software fix to work around a sketchy wiring harness instead of just replacing the harness?

My guess is 23-BR-001H exists but is too new to have made it out to the different sites that show TSBs.

I bought a Brand new Ioniq hybrid in 2022. Not only did the auto hold button never work but it constantly flashs a warning on my dashboard and a loud dinging noise while driving. Very distracting. Hyaundai Danbury has still not been able to fix this.. it’s been 1.5 years. TERRIBLE.

I bought a factory certified used 2020 PHEV last month and am now seeing this issue, only 2,000 miles or so later. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow. The fix as described in 23-BR-001H sounds promising. I'm praying this will be covered by the warranty.

Photos of my dashboard in case it's helpful for anyone...

Amber Auto Hold and EPB lights appear and remain until restarting engine

While in this state, if I attempt to enable cruise, these additional lights display

The same thing was happening to my Ioniq Hybrid for the past two years. I would take it into the service department while the lights were still on so they could run diagnostics and they couldn't never find anything. I was always told that "the next software update will fix it". It stopped happening for about 3 months and it recently began happening again. It's curious that it always starts happening whenever I fill my tires up with air (36psi). Of course, I am now out of the warranty period and they won't even speak to me about it. As a matter of fact, for 4 months before the warranty expired, the service technician would only call me and speak to me on the phone. He would never send an email as he did previously. I'm sure he didn't want a paper trail since the warranty was expiring. I'll NEVER purchase a Hyundai again!

I am having the same issue. Very annoying. Tried to call 4 dealerships to get it fixed, not one of them have returned my calls. Getting extremely frustrated.

Hi, i have had same problem for last 12 months on my 2020 hybrid ioniq, finally they are going to change the caliper on Monday, hope this sorts it. The other problem i get is on acceleration from a junction, maybe once a week, it is as if transmission isnt engaged then suddeny does engage with quite a thud, hoping this will cure this as well. pete

Anothe 2021 Ioniq Hybrid owner here with the same issue (autohold and EPB warning lights randomly coming on while driving, along with a persistent "AUTO HOLD turning off press brake pedal" message and alert sound. Absolutely frustrating. Took it to a dealership yesterday and tried to get them to listen to me about how this seems to be a common problem with this make/model/year, and that there's an existing TSB about. They wouldn't listen to me. They just ran it through the standard inspection (useless) and said they couldn't find any codes or recreate the problem. And of course, the problem re-occurred 20 minutes later on my way home. Today I'm starting over with another dealership. I left no wiggle room in asserting how there is a TSB direct from Hyundai about this. I even drove around this morning with my wife in the car to take video of it happening. Service Rep said he remembers he worked on a vehicle recently that needed the wiring harness for the EPB replaced, so hopefully he knows what I'm talking about. I gave him the TSB number and will print several copies before my appointment. Wish me luck, I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi Everyone,

I own a 2021 Hyundai Plug-in Ioniq and brought it to the shop 2 weeks ago. It had the same symptoms (EBP and Auto-Hold in a brown gold color) and once you press the cruise control orange triangle lights popped up.

I took it to the local dealership here in St. Pete Florida and they are looking at it now. Getting car service is horrendous though as I dropped it off 2 and a half weeks ago and they still have it. Still though I rather have it fixed then get it back not fixed. Also they didn't seem to reference the TSA but I will bring it in again if I still get errors and reference directly. It was a voluntary drop off as well.

I came from a 2004 Toyota Prius. before getting this. Yes at times the Prius had problems over the time I had it through 2021 (it was used, the battery had to be replaced once, drove like an appliance, the gauge went out) but i also bought it used and there are many aftermarket ways to get this fixed. It was also $11K when I bought it and i bought it used in 2011. Compared to $30K for the Ioniq.

I was expecting better quality with the Ioniq and to not have many of these dashboard errors but I get errors all the time such as the engine light that disappears if its not charging correctly (not as annoying) and now this ebp and auto hold stuff (This is distractingly annoying). Let's just say I am not impressed but I understand this is growing pains and quirks I can learn to grow with.

Hopefully this software update fixes these issues.

Received back 12/13/2023. There seems to be no issue so far in daily driving. The service was horrendous and I think Hyundai needs to update their policy because its pretty strict, and what good is a 5 year warranty if it takes forever to get an appointment, get properly diagnosed, and fixed. It was 4 week turn around which is bad especially if there is no alternative. I didn't get a rental until this week and that was the 4 week mark.

I am just happy to get my car back but just less than impressed by the service.

Had mine fixed, they said a cable had come loose. They also did the 3rd year service at the same time, total cost was roughly 8,000Kr* (they replaced a battery and some other stuff apparently)
