Anti-Theft Tracking

Hello all. I received a letter in the mail titled "Anti-Theft Tracking Expiration Notice" stating that I had to call the toll-free number to receive my "complimentary Anti-theft pre-programmed wireless tracking."

I didn't think much about it, but called the number today, and the number came up as Public Safety Crime Center. At that point, I hung up, thinking this might be a third-party scam. The dealership never mentioned anything about this, and I thought Bluelink already offered vehicle recovery services in the event of theft.

Has anyone received this and gone through the process? Is it legitimate?

TIA

Your dealer may have installed an add-on GPS tracking device somewhere hidden in your vehicle. You may have paid for it. Look at the add-ons list (that's full of worthless crap), that might have been attached to the Monroney window sticker, to inflate the price of the Ioniq above the MSRP.

Or maybe they installed it in secret, to make repossessing the vehicle easier.

Or, it's just a third-party scam.

Or, perhaps some combo of several things.

I'd look around the vehicle for a mystery box that causes a drain on your 12V battery. A common location is tucked behind the OBDII port, piggy-backed on the connector, for power.
