a bit concerning that the windscreen became unbonded from the frame as that allows debris into the cabin and also reduces structural integrity as the bonded windscreens are part of the strength of the safety cell

NTSB launches investigation into another Tesla crash after it caught fire and killed two teens in Florida

The National Transportation Safety Board announced Wednesday that it is investigating a crash involving a Tesla that killed two teens and injured a third in Florida.
A gray 2014 Model S reportedly ran off the road Tuesday and struck a concrete wall before catching on fire and killing the two teens inside and injuring a third who was ejected from the car in Ft. Lauderdale.
The driver, who was killed, was identified as Barrett Riley. Edgar Monserratt was also killed. A spokeswoman from Tesla didn't immediately comment on this story.
Police said speed may have been a factor in the crash. Police told CNBC they are not focusing on AutoPilot as a cause, but they reportedly told NBC Miami that they are investigating the battery pack to see why the car caught fire so quickly.

another tesla battery fire :(

Again, it's not good to presume based on the limited information available. The ejection of at least one car occupant suggests no seat belt so it's possible the car was being driven by cretins.
In which case the fire was the least of their worries...

With vehicles from proper car companies such as the likes of I-Pace and the first of Merc's EQ range on the immediate horizon, who would still want to pay megabucks for a glorified computer disguised as an automobile?

Tesla are about to see some serious competition!

Well they've nailed their colo(u)rs to the mast of mass market production and still only managed to make 9,766 Model 3's in the first quarter of 2018.
They promised 20,000 a month by the end of 2017.

And now Senior VP of Engineering, Doug Field is taking time off as part of an indefinite leave of absence. Field was seen as the architect of the Model 3.

Production is continuing to climb but is a long way from making Tesla a mass-market player, rather than a debt-ridden, stock-swollen laughing stock with unfulfilled promises and rapidly-declining potential.

Setting their customers on fire probably isn't helping...

Well it really needs to be said that ol` Elon is running out of time to start fulfilling production promises...

Usual `pub chat` among the green car users/seekers down my way sees MOST no longer looking to buy a Model 3, and the only really keen purchaser has long since got his deposit back - although he is looking at a used Model S instead.

The shine is wearing off, what with one thing or another.

Seems I'm not the only one sharing the view that Tesla has ideas completely above its station:

https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/news/musk-says-thorough-reorganisation-underway-at-tesla/ar-AAxhYFm

Shares fall 5% when Elon promises Model 3 production is on track? Seems shareholders are beginning to get nervous...

A U.S. traffic safety regulator on May 2 contradicted Tesla's claim that the agency had found that its Autopilot technology significantly reduced crashes.

The NTSB is now conducting its' fourth investigation into crashes of Tesla cars, while on Monday, firefighters in Switzerland said a fatal accident involving a Tesla may have set off a fire in the car's battery in the latest `fireball` accident involving a Tesla.

Finally, the company changed the terms of its borrowing agreement with banks to allow it to pledge its Fremont, California, auto plant as collateral.

Does this really sound like a success story? :(

just proves why there are Darwin awards >:)>:)

obviously these people are trying to get one, as they are too stupid to understand and acknowledge the limitations of the autopilot system, it is not a full autonomous system it still requires baby sitting by a human

Both for toaster and Tesla users (and equivalents such as Ioniq and Leaf)) it is good to become aware of how they can die from them. Therefore these news items are still useful in increasing such awareness.

Probably a majority of all accidents arise from lack of attention, even most of the ones ascribed to driver error. There is no real evidence suggesting Tesla suffers more such accidents than other makes, in fact just the opposite. A single anecdote of an idiot does not cause a blip in these statistics. Tech on the whole has made cars safer in the last 50 years consistently. Which is why mortality is generally dropping year over year. The exception to that trend is not a car feature, but texting.

Too true, but it does indicate that as one excludes one accident causation factor, another steps in to its place...

Stupid people will ALWAYS find a way. The problem is when entry-level stupidity levels rise owing to a lack of understanding of increasingly complex software. >:)

Sorry my bad.. should have read properly - Thought we were talking about deaths during testing, not road traffic accidents, in which case I would be inclined to read more into the actual cause of death than just the fact they happened to be in a tesla at the time... having a heart attack for example..
