A Verizon Hotspot has appeared

I’ve started a case with HUSA engineering as Verizon wasn’t able to active it, and Bluelink shows that a Hotspot is available but we can’t figure out how to provision it. Normally this is done at purchase, but obviously it was active but buried in the engineering menu and suddenly surfaced with the May update (granted the 22 file on a 23 Limited)

Mine started working on its own on Saturday. No rhyme or reason. Now, If I could get my digital key working, I be all set.

Lost the hotspot with the latest update. I received and installed the OTA update and when finished, I noticed that they removed the hotspot.
You got the newest update as an OTA?
Yes. I want to downgrade but no longer have the files.

What is the advantage to having this? I mean just about everyone can tether the internet from their phone and android auto/apple carplay integrates into the headunit. Isn't this Verizon Hotspot $20 per month for something we already have?

I have been wondering about that too.

I usually keep my cars for a pretty long time and I can easily envision having the car when the various cellphone carriers shutdown their LTE/4g coverage to free up spectrum for 7g, 8g or whatever the G du jour is at that time. When that happens the built in mobile data in the car will be worthless making it impossible for Hyundai to provide a number of Bluelink services.

From my point of view, I would rather have the car able to link to a couple of WiFi networks. At least two, one for using a home WiFi network and the other for tethering to a phone. That way the marginal cost for Hyundai for keeping Bluelink working on older cars would be minimal.

Well, here we go again, tethering your phone isn’t always practical. If you want to use CarPlay wirelessly, you can’t use a hotspot. If you AT&T you may not have the best of coverage in some areas, so it’s a fall back. If you have kids and they are in the back and you want to have a wireless dongle - nope no hotspot. There are lots of use cases, but not everyone will want or use it.

Those points are "ok" but seems to be catering to the 1/10 of 1%.
Ioniq 5 (mine 2023 Ltd) does not have built in Wireless Android., but if it did there is a 50% chance or greater that someone else does have a cell phone that could tether.
People living in an area that have bad coverage generally get fed up and find a carrier that works better. I switched to Verizon for that exact reason
..but I am not here to troll. I just wanted to understand the draw. I had this option in my other vehicles and couldnt justify activating it.
Thanks TheNateS, I appreciate the input

Besides what TheNateS indicated as benefits there is also the fact that the integrated Wi-Fi antenna will allow for a wider coverage range than a carrier's portable hotspot and/or a phone activated hotspot. Additionally, the car’s larger antenna will be more powerful, then that of your phone and will thereby improve coverage in spotty areas. There is also the security aspect of having devices tethered to your personal phone versus the car's hotspot. There is also the fact that you don't have to worry about the drain on your phone's battery. And before you say that we have the ability to charge our phones wirelessly or via the USB connector, those are basically useless on Hyundai vehicles. I have owned many and they all suck at charging devices through wired or wireless.

Also, if you already have a data only plan with VZ, like I do for a bunch of connected devices I own for our business, the cost is only $10/month

But at the end of the day, its convenience.

....convenience at a per owner level.
Agreed
I dont fit the bill
I see it like my internet provider wanting to give me "a deal" if I sign up for their telephone service.
There are many reasons to have that feature too.... but I cant find a reason for it in my home.
*Come to think of it, I cant think of anyone who still has a shared "home phone" anymore

Thanks folks!!!
You asked the question and it was answered. Nobody said that it was for you or anyone in particular. Some of us value the feature and some do not. And it's not the same as your home phone example but troll on...
Dude...go for a ride and relax.... I exited gracefully. Only person upset is you.
Chilled as a cucumber. You exited like a troll by baiting a question just to elicit a response. You were never truly interested in receiving an opinion as to the merits of the feature. You were just looking to instigate. Your intentions were clear when you started with..."Not being a troll "
Aren't you being a troll enticing me?
I got the replies I found acceptable. I am unbelievably sorry that my point of view upsets you. But you really need to relax and let this go. I said NOT BEING A TROLL because I understand that in these days, people get really upset over a question . I mean you see what it did to you, right?
Stop and reflect... This is a forum, to discuss ideas and points of view. I do understand its merit.
It's all good. Let's let this rest.
All the best on this Holiday Weekend. Remember all those that sacrificed for our ability to banter on forums like this one.

Ok, so I am confused. Does the Hotspot work now 😄 It shows in our car that we have activated Verizon but don't seem to actually be able turn it on or find the password to connect our phones.

If you have the DATA/Network tab that leads to this screen you have access to the hotspot, but as soon as an OTA pushes out you will lose it. I still have an active Verizon trial but no way to use it …..
