$7500 HMF Lease Cash Available Today - 2/18

Didn't see this mentioned yet, so wanted to bring it up to see what others are doing/seeing. I took another family member in to get their I5 Limited that I negotiated and changing to the lease to get the $7500 rebate is now an option. This made sense to me since you can purchase before the maturity date. We went ahead and filled out the paperwork while we wait for the downpayment check to arrive from the bank; wanted to make sure all of the terms were accurate.

Residual Value is 61% with a .00361 MF. I am trying to make sure the Purchase before Maturity (Section 23, subsection B) process only charges you interest on the months the lease is open vs the entire lease. Anyone worked through these with HMF before?

did your buy out quote change at all when you did separate payments? or had to pay any extra fees?
I was going to send cashiers check but online is so much easier.
no change to buyout quote. When I call on my account it says I paid on May 6, 2023. I assumed I would be paid in full on April 22 but I am not fighting them on that right now.

Hopefully they are working on the title now. I still have temporary registration and a temporary plate.

It sounds like a number of people have done this successfully. I'm quite interested in doing so as well. Looking at the current lease offer fine-print on Hyundai:

"Lease
EXTREMELY LIMITED INVENTORY AVAILABLE. MODEL SHOWN PRICED HIGHER. Lease a 2023 IONIQ 5 LIMITED ... Must take new retail delivery on vehicle from dealer stock by 5/1/2023. Special Retail Balloon offer also available in the states of AL, AR, LA, MS, NM, OK, TN, TX. See your local Hyundai dealer for details." (Bold emphasis mine)

We put an order in for a Limited from our local dealership about a month ago, due to their essentially being no Limited trims anywhere around in WI. It seems that in order to take advantage of the lease credit, we have to find an available car at a dealer's lot. It would seem like we wouldn't be able to get the lease credit for our order. Is this correct?

If you've successfully done an early buyout with the lease cash, then did you lease a car from a dealer's lot? Ordered from the dealership?

i found one a limited off the dealer lot with no markup. Luckily
Same situation for me. Paid online in two payments the day after the account was set up with HMF. Next day got an email saying they were working on title release and then a week later later another email saying it was done. DOL here is super slow though, so still waiting on tags, registration, and title.

Thanks I am going to do this instead of mailing in a cashiers check. Saves me a trip from going to the bank. Was worried there were extra fees if multiple online payments were made
I looked around and found a couple of dealers that had Limited trim in stock. Then emailed different dealers, and did most of my negotiation that way. Did the lease, bought it out the first month, and here we are.

I'm still waiting on my title, but I successfully went through this earlier this month. Mine was in-transit to the dealer at the time I put down a deposit.

Don't worry about the specific wording on the offer, though, the dealer can use the $7500 cap cost reduction on any I5 lease. Even if you technically custom-ordered one, if you declined delivery on the vehicle, then it would be regular "dealer stock" for the next buyer. They'll give you the $7500 offer because they know they're unlikely to sell the car without it.
Can anybody confirm or deny that Hyundai has dropped the lease incentive to $5K in May?

I'm hoping this isn't true.

The monthly offers usually show up on the Hyundai website a few days into the month. Call a dealer if you want to know for sure.

That being said, with inventory piling up on dealer lots I can't see them dropping the incentive.

My guess is Hyundai is hedging bets against the EV tax credit being rolled back. I know the Debt Limit bill will never pass the Senate as-is but what passed in the House completely rescinds all EV tax credits and that includes all commercial EV credits "granted" in 2023 and the consumer ones too. i.e Even if you bought a Tesla in Feb 2023... the new bill rescinds the credits and you can't claim the credit in your 2023 taxes in March of 2024.

I sure hope not! Fortunately, I think that bill has about a 0% chance of being voted on by the Senate before 2025 and a slightly less chance of being signed by the president if it were to somehow pass.

I'm betting on Hyundai just hasn't published April incentives yet and it'll be back on their website later this week.
I'm also seeing only a $5000 lease cash by the dealers in the Bay Area. Boo - unless they lower MSRP by $2500 or more, it's hard to justify paying that much for this.
Hyundai website has this:

MSRP $46,835 (includes destination, excludes tax, license, title, registration, documentation fees, options, insurance and the like). Lease offer includes application of $7,541.75 in Total EV Lease Benefit (which is comprised of $5,200 Lease Cash and $2,341.75 Residual Value Support).

Residual Value Support of $2,341.75 raises the residual value of the vehicle and reduces the monthly lease payment.

I don't like the last sentence.

It's $5000 for Limited and $5200 for other trims - using the paid Leasehckr tool to check incentives by trims + zipcode. The $7500 was great while it (briefly) lasted.
Anyone else in MA? HMF got billed $990 excise tax and then HMF billed it to me.

I bought it out within a week, and MA will bill me $990 as the new owner.

I will have to fight HMF for a tax abatement and pro-rated refund. So far they have been incompetent about the situation. Fun fun.
Leased my 2023 I5 Limited off the dealer's lot. I searched all over Southern California and finally found a dealer that was willing to negotiate the price via email.
I got them to take $3000 off MSRP with NO dealer add-ons or extended warranty or any other bogus dealer charges. I did get the $7500 credit on the lease.
Sent my cashier's check a few days later to HMF for the buyout amount and the buyout was complete according to HMF. Now just waiting for them to send me the title.
Should also be getting a $7500 rebate from the California Clean Vehicle Rebate Program. Waiting to hear back from them on my application.

Awesome! So you got 3k + 7500 lease cash? That's probably around 9000-9500 savings! I wish I waited a couple months.

Yes! Plus, separately, I am eligible for an additional $7500 rebate from the state of California through their CVRP program. So that will be about $17,000 in savings.

Wow. That sucks - hard to anticipate that one.

I'm in MA as well. I completed my buyout a week after delivery (end of March). HMF hasn't sent me the excise tax bill yet, nor have they sent me the paper title (required for registration).

I'm guessing the excise tax bill is only generated when you register the car with the RMV, and that they use the registration date for prorating for the year. Perhaps you / we could just wait until late in the year to register in our name, thereby minimizing the bill?

It took me a while to get the paper title in the mail. I wasted two trips to the RMV because HMF kept saying they sent it electronically and of course the RMV said it had to be a paper one. The RMV gave me the title number that was needed so make sure you get that, otherwise HMF will keep telling you the old title was already sent. I finally got a hold of someone at HMF who was able to look it up and send the paper title.

Yes the excise tax bill gets generated when you register. I had to buy new plates too 🙄If you want to keep your old ones, then HMF has to provide a letter stating you can keep them. The RMV said the price was the same so I didn't care to keep them.

I wasn't sure if there was a law to register the car right away or not. I did it ASAP just to avoid any trouble. I moved here from another state before and got a ticket for not registering in MA in time.
