Where would you prefer the charge port? The ID4 and Rav4 Prime have the same location. It's a bit annoying to back in one car into the garage to access the plug.
I feel that it'd be a little easier if it were on the driver's side. Home charging doesn't matter too much though it would be more convenient on the other side in my specific situation, but with how obnoxious the public charging situation is, I find sometimes that it'd be nice if it was on the driver's side to get really close to plugs. Some chargepoint and EA cords are pretty short, and when there is snow, parking buffers, and other things, those can make it worse. And, whenever I5's work with the magic dock, we'll ruin a parking spot at superchargers unless they roll out longer cords as they roll out the magic docks. All said, it's a small issue

I've been following this forum for awhile, and thanks to you guys I'm pretty sold on a getting a 5 for myself. Circumstances favored waiting a bit, but I'm still keeping up to date.

I do understand that forum environments like this are going to show more problems than what the user population experiences, because few write to say that everything's going fine. That said, there are a few issues that have come up repeatedly. Now that we're in the '23 model year, how many of those early issues have been fixed?

My probably-not-all-inclusive list of repetitive problems includes:

12V battery charging failures
Cracking front windshields
Wheel shake with 20" wheels
Overheating charge ports
Failing charge port doors
ICCU problems (check battery system)

If I've missed any please let me know. My main point is, are there any '23 model owners who are still experiencing any of these problems? Has Hyundai done their part in fixing what are inevitable teething problems on a new model?
I got my 2023 Limited on Friday, Jan 13, 2023. I have less than 1,000 miles on the car. I have not experienced ANY of the above listed problems. However, I HAVE experienced some problems that are making me think my car is either haunted or a sentient being. And I am laughing my butt off about it. Several times now (more than 5 times), I have been driving along minding my own business and the thermostat will change itself to 82°. Radio on and off. And I have not been alone every time this has happened! No one was doing anything at the time other than I was driving and the passenger was sitting... no controls were being changed. Another time, and don't judge.... my better half and I were sitting in the parked car. The car was turned off and not being charged... we were just sitting there playing PokemonGo. Ok, it's been raining and we can't go out walking and we know a spot where we can access THREE poke stops and put lures in them and get tons of pokemon to catch as well as spin the poke stops.... Anyway... we were sitting there in the parked car, no engine on, no accessories on, and the car's fan came on. The AC or heat fan. You know.... the ventilation fan. It just came on by itself. And this has happened twice. I had to turn the car ON to turn the ventilation fan OFF. And today I was driving along and all of a sudden the overhead interior lights came on. I pushed the on/off buttons and nothing happened. So, I just ignored it and went to the store (It's not raining today!) and when I came out from the store and started my car, it was fine. No light on. I have it set so that it stays off unless you turn it on. There have been other weird things that have happened where the settings have been changed and I didn't change them and no one drove the car but me, but they're not as definite. I have an appointment on the 27th to have all of the updates done. (Thank you, forum members for letting me know about them!). I have not told the service department about the above mentioned problems because... well... because I am female. I am not going to the dealer's alone. I am going with my MALE partner who will explain the problems to the service guy and not get condescended to as I would be. I BUILD COMPUTERS!!!! I've been doing that since 1991!!! I'm not crazy. I keep thinking about the movie "Short Circuit". Computers don't get happy, they don't get sad, they do what they're programmed to do. I know that EVs are basically just giant computers you can sit in, so I am hoping for some logical explanation. In the meantime, I'm going to just go with the flow and keep laughing.....

Kind of difficult to know. The earliest buyers are only just coming up on a year. Mine was hunky dory until suddenly it wasn't, 11 months in (ICCU probably).

For me, stuff breaking isn't the biggest issue. I know stuff breaks. Especially on a new line.

But how you respond to issues tells me what kind of company (or person) you are. Hyundai has been mediocre so far. A well run company should promptly provide parts (weeks isn't acceptable) and loaner vehicles. I'm currently renting a grubby base-model Kia Soul and have no idea if Hyundai will even fully cover it. I don't appreciate having the costs of Hyundai underinvestment foisted on me, the customer.
Any idea if something triggered it?

My wife heard a "pop" and then less than a minute later the car popped up the "EV warning" signal. Fortunately she had just left home and had the sense to turn around and come home immediately.

Other than that, absolutely not. The car was totally reliable (except once the AC didn't turn on, but came on immediately after a on/off/on cycle) until then. We had none of the "uh my 12V battery is now dead" issues.

Someone on reddit just posted that they just had this fault - on ski trip hours from home. There was a photo of their disabled Ioniq 5 surrounded by 15 foot snow piles.

If I start seeing indications that this fault starts happening to "fixed" cars in another 11 months I will probably move to unload the car. I can't have a vehicle that will randomly decide not to drive with no warning.

Man this thread is scaring me. I just got my 23 SEL AWD a week ago and am so happy with it. But before this I've only driven reliable Hondas and Toyotas. I have two young kids, I need a reliable vehicle.
I am the same way. I had a 1999 Honda Accord V6 and replaced that with another one in 2005. Then got a Honda Civic Hybrind in 2013 and replaced that with a Prius V 5 in 2016 because I needed a larger car. I replaced the Prius with the Ioniq5 AWD Limited. I am fine with it, except for the haunting. I live about a mile from Hyundai Corporate in Fountain Valley. I've been thinking of going there and asking them to perform an exorcism.....

I'd say, based on the data and extensive recalls and stop sales from japanese car makers the last two years, especially evs with wheels falling off, you made a wise choice.

What are you reading that is scary? Most of the posts reiterate the fact that on ANY forum you will always get posts of problems as opposed to posting that all is fat dumb and happy

I had two of the problems mentioned by the OP -- they were only minor annoyances. A couple of the others are more serious but also much more rare. I still follow the ID4 forum a bit (having ordered one of those and then cancelled) and also see occasional serious problems there. Hard to quantify in either case how often these occur. In 9 months of I5 ownership we have had no problem impacting drivability or other core functionality.

I haven't had any of these. My pet peeves are the complete lack of a rear window wiper/washer, and the fact that with the rear seat head restraints in place, the rear-view mirror is completely blocked. That's my 2 cents.

I keep seeing threads about 12v and ICCU failure, Ioniq5s being towed to the dealer and sitting there for weeks or months, no parts available, dealer can't figure out what's wrong, and even buy backs. I've only followed Ioniq5 forums and FB groups for a couple months and these posts seem abundant.

In comparison, I've owned a Rav4 Prime for a year and followed the groups and threads for about a year before that. I've never heard of any random catastrophic failure within a year of ownership that kept the car in the dealer for weeks or months. Certainly not any buy backs. There is the #cablegate corrosion issue that takes 2-3 winters to occur but at least there are warning signs (faulty AM radio signal) and you won't be randomly left stranded on the road.

Agree - there are an alarming number of posts about the ICCU failure. Especially as they seem to be highly concentrated in people who have owned the car for more than 11 months. Which means those who took delivery on or before March 2022. At that point only a few thousand (?) were delivered in the USA. Also, my small Hyundai dealership said that they had seen several of this exact same issue.

My reading here suggests that one solution can solve both problems. A rear view dash cam with an external camera that mounts under the rear spoiler. Headrests and window grime have no effect on it. I would be concerned that the camera lens could get mucked up a bit, but it's easy to run a thumb over it every day or so.

Keep going to the dealer by yourself and let them embarrass themselves mansplaining. Then teach them how computers work and why this is weird. Only when women push back will change happen. Or bring your partner but still do the talking. The dealer might have better manners if a witness is present.

The Fan is the humidity control which is managed by a setting that you can turn off.
