I’ve been looking for info on the upcoming 2024 model. Aside from recent speculation that it will have a rear wiper ($50,000 seems like a fair price for a wiper), does anyone have any info on what might be included? Or what you might want included?
With Hyundai mentioning during the IONIQ 5 N launch that they'll be rolling the rear wiper out to all IONIQ 5 'variants' over time - I don't the question is that frivolous as that's apparently the biggest gripe here. One thing for sure with the 2024 model...There will be people asking if they should wait for the 2025 model.
Having done searches on when MY2023 info began coming out, it was between February and April 2022. That’s why I posted, I figured info would probably be emerging around now. Maybe the New York Auto Show the second week of April? Hyundai will be there.Anyone here with remember when in 2022 the MY 2023 changes/updates were announced? I'm keenly wondering for an order I placed a few weeks back that could go either way between MY 2023 and MY 2024.
I'm guessing after the formal launch of the IONIQ 5 N they'll also announce additional changes (wiper) to the lineup.Having done searches on when MY2023 info began coming out, it was between February and April 2022. I read somewhere the issue with wireless Android Auto is that vehicle manufacturers and Google can't agree on who's mapping system should have priority. The problem with wireless mapping is there are large parts of Australia (and I'm sure other countries) that don't have the connectivity that allows wireless mapping to work.I just hope it comes with wireless android auto!
And then they ask should they wait dur the 2026 model etcOne thing for sure with the 2024 model...There will be people asking if they should wait for the 2025 model.
I have it on good authority that the 2028 model will have dual rear wipers. I’m waiting. And then they ask should they wait dur the 2026 model etc
Somewhere it was reported that Hyundai claimed the addition of the wiper was only necessary on the N because its triangular CHMSL required a spoiler design changeI'm guessing after the formal launch of the IONIQ 5 N they'll also announce additional changes (wiper) to the lineup.
That's a point I hadn't considered. When you combine that with the fact that battery preconditioning only works through the cars' nav, it becomes a more complex - and more crucial - issue.I read somewhere the issue with wireless Android Auto is that vehicle manufacturers and Google can't agree on who's mapping system should have priority. Because of mediocre efficiency.. the E-GMP lineup could use another 10 kWh (like the Ariya which has 87 kWh gross). Competitors like the Mach-E have 99 kWh gross and even the BMW i4 has 84 kWh gross. This would add about 30+ miles of range. Competitors like the Lyriq and iX have 103+ kWh battery packs and easily 310+ miles of range.Or what you might want included?
I don't believe that's it. Someone here reported a while ago that Hyundai entered a contract many years ago with TomTom (yeah, they still exist) to provide their mapping software/services. Part of that contract does not allow Hyundai to offer any wireless applications to override the on-board mapping. Thus no support for wireless AA or ACP. Once that contract ends or possibly is re-upped without that stipulation, it shouldn't take much to send an update allowing wireless access. That's a point I hadn't considered. I don't understand all the tech details, but I thought GPS works anywhere you have sufficient proximity to a satellite. (Though perhaps other connectivity is needed for nav to work.) Either way, if the car's nav isn't working there's not really any downside to not being able to run the nav and phone simultaneously.
There is also the fact that infotainment updates are infrequent, and charger infrastructure is increasing rapidly. That doesn't do us much good if we need preconditioning and the nav doesn't know where the latest charging stations are. So to me it means that something we need SOON is the ability to navigate to any location and flag it as a charging station for which the the car will precondition. It would be a win-win - the user gets the preconditioning they need and (if the car talks to Hyundai periodically) Hyundai would get a heads-up on where new charging stations are.
As for running both at once, seems like that should be a fairly easy software fix. But if not, I'd be happy mounting my phone next to the dash, disabling Android Auto / Apple CarPlay and use the USB only to power the phone, allowing it to run independently of the car's systems.
Since it’s possible the 2025 will be built in the US and eligible for at least part of the federal incentive (fka tax credit but planned to be applied through dealerships by then) the answer for some people will be -yes, wait. One thing for sure with the 2024 model...There will be people asking if they should wait for the 2025 model.
I agree that rear wiper is no big deal for me. Had many other cars that had one and it was rarely used. However, it would be nice to have a rear wiper after taking a poop.😃I honestly don't care about the rear wiper after tons of rain we have had, I can say it would make no real difference for me and is just another part to replace when it dies.
