The announced enhancements for 2023 include battery preconditioning as described below. I would be so upset if they don’t add this via a software update to the 2022 since it is such a major part of the EV experience if you live in a cold climate.

“Meanwhile, the new battery conditioning feature will enable IONIQ 5 to automatically adapt its battery temperature while travelling to ensure optimal charging conditions when reaching the charging point, improving real-life charging performance in hot or cold ambient conditions. This function activates automatically when a charging point is entered into the vehicle’s navigation system using connected routing.”

Hyundai Norway PR manager has said they “expect” it to available to existing cars but would require a dealer software update. All models in Norway have the battery heater and heat pump as standard and these maybe required for preconditioning to work. We won’t know for sure until it’s announced.

I can see it being an upgrade as it seems to just be a software update to the BMS. Unfortunately it would only apply to vehicles with an existing battery heater/heat pump. I don't see a hardware retrofit likely. This would likely only benefit vehicles with AWD in the US as I believe they are the only ones with the appropriate hardware.

Built-in navigation totally useless. I cannot reprogram it or check anything while my wife drives. Even if I use plugshare to find nearest charger, I cannot type its address to navigation system because of stupid safety rules. I don't want to risk my family life by asking my wife to stop car on the side of highway.

Hello from Latvia, I have my Ioniq 5 (2021, demo car from a dealer) but with Winter Mode only.
Asked my dealer - they don't know anything about "Battery conditioning mode" and say "probably it's not available in Latvia". But it's as expected I guess - they're very lazy about anything. For example they got it from me that you can subscribe for the Ionity chargers with reduced price. Gross.

So I wrote the local importer - so far no answer yet.
Asked EU Customer Center via chat (Customer Support | Official Hyundai Motors Navigation Update Website) - a person there said "it's available only on EV6" (whaaat?)

So far no interest in there from anyone officially representing Hyundai here.
I have the Battery Heater in my trim so - whom else can I ask? What do you think?

Thanks!
