18in vs 20in Wheel

This is probably a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I love the wheels on my SEL but I'm all about mileage. If I decide to purchase nice looking 18in rims and go with the P225/55R18 tire (I think this is the tire on the SE - EV tire of course). How will the car know that I've changed the diameter of the tire to give me the additional mileage?
Not many aftermarket wheels are aerodynamic....you will have to choose wisely on this. Revolution per mile will be same.... if you choose proper size of tires.

So lets say that I purchased the 18in Wheels and tires for the SE (I won't since I don't think they are that attractive) but hypothetically, the car will recognize/re-learn the rotations per minute and adjust the mileage accordingly?
Being attractive is opposite from being efficient. For as long you choose same revolution per mile tires...there will be no error on speedometer or mileage count.
Fast EV are one of good aerodynamic wheels and they look great.
Here is example....you can also do murder out in black.

Thanks for the detail. I’m still not following - if I do change from the 20s to 18s, is my mileage going to increase? Meaning when I charge to 80% now I get about 258 miles. If I change to the 18s, am I going to see an increase in mileage when I charge to 80% with those wheels/tires?
Yes....entire Ioniq 6 is built around 18 wheel ...So aerodynamic properties will be much better than 20 inch wheels.

Did you reduce the wheel size? How much change in efficiency did you see? Thank you
Same wheel size and tires with aftermarket wheels.....picked up another 3% vs aerodynamic Tesla wheels. It may not look a lot ...but it makes day and night difference when driving in winter conditions. Most gain is in less weight per wheel and slightly better aerodynamic properties than stock wheels. Hyundai has quite similar design like FastEV wheels and if FastEV comes out less heavy wheels this will improve efficiency. Even small weight difference on rotating end of half shafts has big impact on better efficiency.
