  2. I want it to steer for me!

    Hyundai IONIQ General Discussion
I'm old enough (and old-fashioned enough) to remember when driving a car actually required some degree of awareness, concentration, skill and planning on the driver's part. Being a staunch manual-transmission holdout (three of my four cars are manuals) in a country in which automatics are so...
  3. U.S. Ioniq Hybrid Test Drive--FINALLY!

    Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid
Jay, Inbound to my local dealer, with arrival imminent, is EXACTLY the car I want--a blue Limited with the Ultimate Package. However, my wife and I are heading off on a month-long cross-country road trip very soon, so I'm not going to buy this one because it will most likely arrive while we're...

Stirfelt, The Hybrid that I test-drove in El Paso on Wednesday was an SEL with the Tech Package. It was the only one the dealer had, but he told me that eight more are inbound. I don't know their specs, though.

jjg, Y'know, I hadn't even thought of Brexit, but I suspect you're right.

bluecar1, Thanks. I try to see everything as humorous. I like to think I'm not overly thin-skinned, and I usually take pride in being able to see others' points of view. It takes a lot to offend me, and I can't imagine anything on this forum ever doing that. The sad thing is, I wish I still...

Yes, it IS easy to confuse us. After all, look at how many Americans were confused to the point of voting against their own interests last November. But that's another story... Having owned both a Triumph TR-4 and an MGB in my youth, I had to learn a lot of British automobile terminology--such...

Jay, Aha. I figured it was something like that, but hadn't seen those specific letters to describe it. Thanks.

Okay, bluecar1, then what do YOU guys call the touch-sensitive display panel for the infotainment system?

When I first read this, and being a Yank and all, I thought "screen" meant the infotainment system touchscreen. Now I realize that you're talking about the big piece of glass between the fascia and the bonnet. You ARE talking about that, right???
  12. Sleeping in your Ioniq EV possible?

    Hyundai IONIQ Electric (EV)
iet, By the way, lest I convey a false impression, we normally do most of our car-camping (and backpacking, when we did that) when the weather is more temperate. Winter wilderness outings are the exception rather than the norm for us. But they're definitely memorable when we do them... Also...
  13. Sleeping in your Ioniq EV possible?

    Hyundai IONIQ Electric (EV)
iet, Not necessarily. Actually, on one of our winter backpacking trips in the Gila Wilderness in New Mexico years ago, when we did sleep in a tent, it was so cold in the morning that, when we tried to heat water over a Coleman stove for breakfast, the water (which we had stored in the tent at...
  14. U.S. Ioniq Hybrid Test Drive--FINALLY!

    Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid
Jay, I have no idea what "aFCD" means, but from the context I assume it was the MPG reading that the car reported on the info display. Mine was 53.5 MPG on about a five-mile drive. Both numbers are statistically useless for such small distances, of course.

Jay, Yeah, you're basically saying the same thing I said about "hesitation" from a stop, but in different words. In my case, however, that behavior, as noticeable as it was, did not detract too much from my overall very favorable impression. I think I'd get used to it, and, as bluecar1 pointed...
