Also, note that when you do use the "Quote" button instead of just copy/pasting and manually adding the Quote Tags, you'll get the quotee's name and a little down-pointing chevron that will link back to the post being quoted.

Click "Multi-Quote" on each of the posts in the thread you want to respond to (and in the order you want to respond to them), and they'll grey out. After clicking the last "Multi-Quote" button, click the "Quote" button next to it, and you'll get all the posts pre-quoted in your response box.
I never figured out how Multi Quote worked, or worked at all. Thanks for explaining. May be useful some day.

And, how to make a quote within a quote? i.e. quoting someone within the thread including his quote?

You need to multi-quote all the parts, then just move around the QUOTE tags to nest them.

Example (I've added spaces to keep the tags from actually being parsed so they can be displayed below):
[ QUOTE = some user; 123456 ] original text. [ / QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE = some other user; 123457 ] This person quoted the person above in their post. [ / QUOTE ]

Move the second user's open quote tag before the first user's open quote tag:

[ QUOTE = some other user; 123457 ]
[ QUOTE = some user; 123456 ] original text. [ / QUOTE ]
This person quoted the person above in their post. [ / QUOTE ]

This will produce the nesting effect of a quote within a quote.
