Lightbulb Hack it! AA, Play Youtube, browse this forum, on cars screen :D

((Im not involved in the coding, all honnor goes to the Android Hackers at GitHub.))
((Don't be an idiot watching video while driving))
((No mod to car, no code in car, all original, waranty intact, its just changes on the phone code))

What have we been missing out on, by Google restricting Android Auto (AA) down to NAV, Music and phonecalls?
Ofc, EVERYTHING...

Giving AA webbrowser capabilities are a genious nobrainer!

30minuts of chargetime and nothing to do?
Put on a youtube video or netflix or anything you want, lean back and enjoy the infinity soundsystem and intigrates "home cinema"!

I made a teaser, just to tease you guys.

1. Update Android Auto, must have latest SDK. (2.9)
2. Download and install this on phone. (webviewauto.sdk)
3. Open AA while not in car, activate DeveloperMode
(Information --> Smack the "About Android Auto" at the top, untill phone shows "Developer mode activated" ~8-10 times)
4. Mark "Alow unknown sources" at the Developer settings

Connect phone to car as usual, hit the most right button and open WebView Auto.
Voila, use whatever webpage you want.

Im also looking into getting the car to show sensor information on screen directly trough AA...
Imagine, battery-cell info, battery voltage, charge current and more? That is something to aim for..

I was writing as you replied.

There might be a few bumps in the road to get there, i needed 3 tries before i got it to work.
Now however it just works instantly when connecting to car...

Next up is trying something like https://www.plugshare.com
Updated chargingstation map? anyone missing that?

The installation went cleanly but it does not operate correctly. I can go into Webviewauto but the screen display is messed up. See the attached image of the screen when it opens and what a keyboard looks like which is a mess. Looks like something being lost in html kind of displays. Any suggestions?

I tried plugshare.com and ladestasjoner.no (norwegian site) and both worked well.
ladestasjoner.no has live update of the usage of separate stations, "1 of 2 CCS free", and joins 3 different provides into one site.
Replacing, having to go to 3 different phone apps in search of free chargers.

I installed YoutubeAuto (Car Stream), and it worked well, showing youtube, Plex, and my phones internal storage (play music from phone storage)
Netflix i did not get to log in.

And again, this is not for use while driving, for EV its perfect for charging time.

If you have it on your PC, just move it to your phone. Cable from PC, email yourself, dropbox, or something.
Maby your phone/browser is blocking something.
Edit: And ofc the phone need to have the securitysetting for installing unknown .apk's enabled. Settings-->Security-->___

Last night i got as far as seeing 12V battery voltage on cars screen trough AA, and some uninterresting info.
Having trouble with the reading of BatteryManagmentSystem (BMS). Seems the latest update on theese PIDs dont work.
